If I was gonna pay that much for a video card, I'd rather just go out and SLI 2 GeForce 7800 GTX cards OR Crossfire (ATI's term for SLI) 2 ATI Radeon X1800 cards.

The 6800 is old news, the 7800 is much much faster... Read the reviews.

The only reason you need something that good is if you plan to have all options turned on, on a large screen.

Actually, it WAS neck and neck for a while there where one game is good on one card while another game is better on another.

HOWEVER, ATI just released their Radeon X1800 series which is supposed to be killer, so I'm assuming that ATI will be better for a month or so until Nvidia releases their next card.
