As far as actual products to purchase, what would you reccomend for a cheap setup that will produce a professional look?

2 strobe kit is your best bet... photogetic has a nice kit for about 700 bucks... 2 strobes, 2 umbrellas, stands.... great starter kit... its all about getting the right angle and strength of flash to get shadows out... just gotta mess with it and see what works best for you with your settings...

Park 2 cars in a V fashion, the tip of the V would be where the headlights go.

Turn on your headlights and shoot away!

FREE LIGHTING!!!

The trick is training 7,629 fireflies to rub their wings in unison.

And a loooooong exposure...high ISO.

yes, you can do a lot with a simple 2 strobe setup. good advice for a beginner. later add a third smaller WS strobe for color gels or mood.

Pick up some powerful shop lights at the hardware store....they are very inexpensive. Shoot them thru a white bedsheet....they are very inexpensive as well. Set your iso to 400, white balance and have fun
