I posted this in another thread about war not being the answer, but I think it deserves its own thread.

If you do a full accounting, the US has probably spent a trillion dollars in the war on terror. Not just money spent on the invasions, but also on the security enhancements. Now, Halibuton has got a huge chunk of that, so Bush and Co won't think of that as cost. More a benefit.

But the US taxpayer is taking it up the ass. And the deficit is huge, so the future generations can enjoy getting fucked as well.

Now, Sept 11 was a bitch. Something like 3,500 people died, and a couple of towers were destoyed. And the Pentagon had a small missle size hole punched into it.

Almost 3,000 military personnel have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and about 20,000 more are missing significant body parts.

Iraq is in chaos, as is Afghanistan.

What do you have to show for the trillion, and all the deaths and maimings?

bin Laden is still at large.

Perhaps *not* responding to Sept 11, would have been the more profitable decision.

Now Im not an american, but I think they have got it all wrong. There should not be a WAR against terror, but a fight. And let me tell you: Bush is not the right man to fight anything. He is a ********** ***** ***** ********! What america needs, is to somehow make peace with those crazy middle east fuckers...Yes, you heard me. PEACE! It is possible. America might have more troops and money and arms, but they will still be crazier in their religious heads!

Know what? If I was President on 9/11....... I wouldn't have invaded countries. I would have made a lot of nice glass parking lots in the Middle East.

What did the middle east have to do with sept 11?

The majority of the hijackers were saudies, that is true, but they were trained in Afghanistan.

I'm probably wasting my time posting this here, due to your inference that a misslie took out the Pentagon. Your critical reasoning skills are possibly not up to par to really grasp the reality of the situation. So this is more for the benefit of others.

Well, it's not a war on terror, for a start, and taking out Bin Laden will have almost no effect on the war. It's a war against an ideology which would have us all forcibly converted to Islam/ enslaved/ killed/ raped/ subjugated. If you disagree, you're quite welcome to pick up a copy of the Koran so that you can see for yourself.

It's a jihad that we're up against. It's been going on since the 7th century when Muhammad used jihad to spread Islam to areas which didn't want it. The jihadis were defeated several times, notably Spain, France, Austria and Poland but it never went away. For several centuries, Muslims became "less Islamic" and the jihad softened slightly but the 20th century saw an Islamic resurgence - a kind of movement to force Muslims back to basics, to the true Islam.

Allah has promised the Muslims that they shall rule the world. They cannot be bargained with or reasoned with in this respect. Muslims believe that the word of god is final, hence the only way to defeat their ideology is to deny them the ability to wage the jihad.

President Bush only last week mentioned that it was a war against jihad, for the first time. It has taken him 4 years to do so, which is terribly poor. Unfortunately, we live in times in which it is seen as being wrong to point out things which are true. So it is very difficult to explain to most people that it is Islam which is at fault. To do so is to be labelled an "Islamophobe" or "racist", even though it is impossible to be racist against an ideology, of course.

In my opinion, Islam is the greatest threat yet to human wellbeing. Just in India, the Muslims managed to kill between 80 and 250 million people during their jihad there.

If Islam wins, there will be no porn, no music, no dancing, no art, no science, no enjoyment, no freedom. It would be legal for a Muslim man to rape your wife and steal your property. And of course, to kill you.

We live in testing times.

If there is one thing which one should have learned from WW2 is that if an ideology is dedicated to your destruction, as the Nazi ideology was dedicated to the destruction of the Jews/ Gypsies/ blacks/ asians/ gays/ slavs/ handicapped people, then it cannot be reasoned with and it cannot be done deals with. The only way to stop an ideology like that is to defeat it. If someone was trying to kill you, would you shake his hand or would you fight back?

I share your concern about fundamentalism. But mine is not limited to Islam. I am also concerned about Christians, especially in the US. As liberalism falls away, nothing will exist the stop the Christian fundies. True, they don't resort to terror. But, they don't have to. They already have power.
