Central Florida. Just want to grow some of my own stuff, and brush up on old farming skills. I want to know that I can still grow corn, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, etc.. as needed and do the canning so that it will last through winter season til the next growing season. I used to do this every year with my grandpa, never by myself.

Nothing that big.. about 1 or 2 acres of actual farmed land probably. Just considering it at the moment and thinking of doing it some more.

I would not call what I do as farming, just more heavy gardening.
I do however can a great deal. Though I will say you can grow almost anything, it is very resource and space heavy to attempt growing corn. Nearly any other crop can be maximized for space, yet corn is one of those that just can not. It needs space and lots of it. You also get very little product for the space that it uses. 2 or so cobs for every stock, with each stock requiring approx 1 square foot per plant and must be at least done via 2 rows of pollenation will have issues.

1-2 acres? sounds more like a big garden rather then farming.

Florida you say right? Your about as open as I am with the crops. http://www.floridagardener.com/vgard...mseasonveg.htm http://www.floridagardener.com/vgard...lseasonveg.htm Though since you plan on buying some property when your looking get soil tests done. Specially ph tests. State extension service can run full soil tests for you cheaply and tell you exactly how good the soil is and what admendments are needed if any to improve the soil.
