more than 1 blog per domain, yay or nay?

So lets say you have a blog at www.site.com and open another one at www.site.com/blog1 and another one at www.site.com/blog2 etc.

Anything wrong with that traffic/se wise?

I think it depends on the content, if you are going to use the same content for each blog then you might have a problem, but if each blog will be different I van't see it mattering..

From a search engine point of view I wouldn't do that.....better link the blogs
from their own domains to eachother

It is also promotion for the main-domain. For example blogger.com gets a lot of new people signing up by using subdomains. Their name is spread every time a user types http://blogname.blogger.com

That only works if you have others make more blogs on your domain.....with
multiple domains you promote all the domains that crosslink to eachother.

if all the subdomains are on the same server as the main domain won't Google penalize for "Domain Crowding?"

Your best bet is another domain with another IP address. SE-wise.

Hmm... Than what's the best strategy for building a blog network? Should i buy a separate hosting for each of them?
