more than 1 blog per domain, yay or nay?

So lets say you have a blog at www.site.com and open another one at www.site.com/blog1 and another one at www.site.com/blog2 etc.

Anything wrong with that traffic/se wise?

nexcom28 10-04-2005 03:54 PM

I think it depends on the content, if you are going to use the same content for each blog then you might have a problem, but if each blog will be different I van't see it mattering..

crockett 10-04-2005 03:55 PM

maybe use sub domains

rebel23 10-04-2005 03:58 PM

c'mon Franck, domains are cheap as hell :upsidedow

ServerGenius 10-04-2005 04:01 PM

From a search engine point of view I wouldn't do that.....better link the blogs
from their own domains to eachother :thumbsup

i see.

....

It is also promotion for the main-domain. For example blogger.com gets a lot of new people signing up by using subdomains. Their name is spread every time a user types http://blogname.blogger.com

Doctor Dre 10-04-2005 04:12 PM

Don't sub directories affect SE traffic ?

That only works if you have others make more blogs on your domain.....with
multiple domains you promote all the domains that crosslink to eachother.

:2 cents:

if all the subdomains are on the same server as the main domain won't Google penalize for "Domain Crowding?"

Meorazhar 10-04-2005 09:09 PM

what if i have multiple blogs on different domains but sharing the same virtual server? Is it good or bad SE-wise if i interlink them?

Chris 10-04-2005 09:10 PM

dont interlink em !

umm, you cant use the same content on any 2 pages se wise or you get a penalty.

i wouldnt listen to any of the advice in this thread, looks like a whole lot of people who dont know what they're talking about.

yeah look at blogspot.com, those are all penalized. who runs that? they must know nothing about google.

VHNet 10-04-2005 09:20 PM

Your best bet is another domain with another IP address. SE-wise.

Meorazhar 10-04-2005 09:21 PM

Hmm... Than what's the best strategy for building a blog network? Should i buy a separate hosting for each of them?

Dirty F 10-04-2005 09:56 PM

Hmm this didnt help me much.
