3000 cityworkers in New Orleans get sacked
Just saw a press conference on the news with Ray Nagin. 3000 city workers
will get sacked coz there's no more money to pay their salaries. october 14 will be the last paycheck that they're able to pay......for 3000 of them it will be their last.

It looks like that even in the public sector jobs are insecure.
I personally think that given the circumstances this move is unexcusable and perhaps not the answer. There was a time in our history when jobs were secure and reliable. You could start a job and almost be guaranteed one until you needed to leave. Cutting jobs is often the quickest way to increase profitability but it's often the worst possible answer.
