It looks like that even in the public sector jobs are insecure.

I personally think that given the circumstances this move is unexcusable and perhaps not the answer.

There was a time in our history when jobs were secure and reliable. You could start a job and almost be guaranteed one until you needed to leave.

Cutting jobs is often the quickest way to increase profitability but it's often the worst possible answer.
