Turkey rejects latest EU proposals
ANKARA, Turkey Turkey's Foreign Ministry said Monday that Turkey has rejected proposed changes to its framework agreement with the EU, deepening a crisis as EU leaders tried to overcome a deadlock over starting European Union entry talks.
Accession talks are scheduled to open later Monday, but Austria has insisted that Turkey is offered a partnership if full membership talks do not work out. Turkey has said it will only accept full membership talks. Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan said that ''the EU has proposed some changes to the framework document.... http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/10/...eb.1003EU2.php Doesn't look good to me. |

Some countries are already suggesting they wont be a full member but just a member on the sideline.
For sure theyve got a lot to arrange there before becoming an EU members, esp human rights situations

A majority of Europeans simply don't want Turkey in the EU. Austria is the only country actually listening to the citizens.

I have been to Turkey and have a few friends from there. Its a very poor country and there is a lot of shit going on behind the scenes. Poverty, torture, death penalty, corruption.
I dont want them in our EU until they sort their shit out and become more humane. |

If Turkey enters the EU we would border Syria, Iraq and Iran. I say again, Syria, Iraq and Iran.... Because of the Schengen agreement people would just have to cross Turkey's outer borders to move freely amongst the EU member states. Fat chance that's EVER gonna happen. Ofcourse if Turkey ever got any kind of EU membership they would probably not be part of the Schengen agreement anyway. But Turkey will never be a member. It's not Europe, and people don't want them in. |

Turkey: Officials Try to Shut Down Rights Group (New York, September 27, 2005)?The threat by Turkish officials to close down an organization defending lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people's rights violates basic freedoms of association and expression, Human Rights Watch said today. Selahattin Ekremoglu, deputy governor of the Turkish capital Ankara, on September 15 wrote a letter to the gay and lesbian group Kaos GL that said a court procedure had been opened to dissolve the organization. He claimed that the name and regulations of the group violated a provision in the Turkish Civil Code that forbids "establishing any organization that is against the laws and principles of morality." http://hrw.org/english/docs/2005/09/27/turkey11784.htm

The people of Turkey have no business being included in the EU. They are not indiginous to Europe in any way at all and the only reason they have anything of value is because they stole it from the Greeks.
Their refusual to comply to EU sanctions further goes to show that they should not only have their application revoked, but that all her enemies should attack and destroy her once and for all. The government is a piece of shit for keeping their people down and poverty stricken for generations and the way they have treated Greeks for centuries by seizing assets, property and wealth is comparable only to the holocaust that the Jews cry about every chance they get. Turkey is a Muslim country from the Middle East and should not even be considered for inclusion to the EU. Case Closed. |

Did you ever wonder why Greece is there and Turkey wont be in the EU for another decade or 3? Thats EXACTLY why most ppl hate turkish ppl, the stuck up turkey is mighty attitude. Dude Turkey is poor and the part that isnt, isnt because ppl from Holland and Russia go there and spend serious cash. Not because of the fact the Turkish government succeeded. Itll take ages before they join.

What a load of self-righteous sanctmonous crap!
The only reason why Turkey is being given this load of crap is because they are Islamic. Turkey has been a strong ally of the west. It is a democratic nation. They have thier house in order and there is no crap about human rights violations now. Turkey has been player in Europe from the time of the Roman Empire. And add to this that the comments on "There needs to be a common approach to the way the E.U does things." Is just plain ignorant and blatent discrimination. If it was Canada asking for membership, they would be bending over backwards to prove why it has a claim. |

I doubt Turkey will ever qualify for EU membership, I also doubt that all EU member states would unanimously approve of Turkey joining.
Here's what I think will happen, they'll talk and talk, then have meetings, and talk, and committees, and talk, and blah, and talk....this will go on for the next 20 years, and eventually they'll say "fuck it" or there will eventually be a referendum which will get voted down, and then they'll repeat this process all over again.

Germany is condemned because of violations of freedom of opinion and freedom of association by the European Court of Human Rights. But the German courts do not respect this judgement. 6. Italy - Italy is increasingly placing asylum-seekers in detention in violation of international refugee standards. People in temporary holding centres have been subjected to physical assault by law enforcement officers and supervisory staff and to excessive and abusive administration of sedative and tranquillizing drugs. Many experience difficulties in gaining access to the expert advice necessary to challenge the legality of their detention and of expulsion orders. Tension in the centres is high, with frequent protests, including escape attempts, and high levels of self-harm. The centres are often overcrowded, with unsuitable infrastructures, unhygienic living conditions and unsatisfactory medical care. And I could go on and can compile a huge list of each state in the E.U, North America and each and every single damn country of the world. Guess what??? I think before anyone plays "Holier than thou" they better make sure their own shit doesn't stink first. |

For those geographically challenged, Turkey spans both the european and asian continents. (please consult a map and look in the area of Istanbul).
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1999/oca...turkey.map.jpg thus, their claim for application into EU. Fight the mapless!

Hey Metro, are you turkish or have a turkish background?
Having them join the EU is not a good thing. It means the rich countries have to pay even more and they get an open invitation to come in even greater numbers to Holland. Besides, their culture is so way off it wouldn't blend with the EU culture. Btw, what happened with the discussion of Holland contributing way too much money to our friend Baroso. Why do you think over 50% in the prisoners here is foreigner, while the total population of Holland is only like 10% foreigner.

Turkey will make further progress in human rights inside EU and that will be the outcome by slowly removing the military control that still exists there. Turks are not different than Greeks, Dutchs or British people. I strongly believe that and I have experienced it. Under certain conditions they can be fanaticized, but no more than the rest. I believe they should be given a logical time-frame to meet further requirements.
Many europeans do not want Turkey because they are afraid the immigration and the impact it will have in the work place. I fully understand it and it's a concern that has to be seen, but I find it unacceptable to make use of other excuses to express their concerns. If you say you don't like turks you are nothing more than the negative imagine you have about them in your mind. |
