Try calling your sponsor and ask them if they could pay you by wire transfer instead of check. There are always people who are willing to make exceptions like this.

HSBC charges for both receiving foreign currency transfers and cheques, so it's a bit of a bastard.
I'd like to know of any UK bank that offers a USD business account with online banking, but so far I aint seen nothing. |

Ya same here lloyds charge like $8-$12 one great advantage with them though is every time I put a cheque it's cleared and ready to use the next day most of the time which is faster then normal UK cheques. But only other way is get a epassporte account with card instant payment retrieval from cashpoint but sponsor needs to pay into epassporte.

Wires are best for bigger ammounts, but Epass is pretty good.
Get the card and you can get cash as soon as it it paid. The exchange rate is ok and you dont get charged for withdrawing money, even from those silly machines in the shops that normally charge a few quid. If you have people anywhere in the word you send money to often then its great to open a gift acount for them and just use epass.... I pay for my cats lodging in NZ and it used to cost a fortune Wetern Union or Bank Trans every month. |

We can pay UK webmasters by cheque in Sterling now. No more waiting for cheques to clear or bank fees
