Do you tend to apply your powdered eyeshadow with water to help it be brighter and stay on longer, or is there another secret to this that I need to be let in on? I've a lovely shade of pink that's light when applied dry and dark n groovy when applied wet, but it dries out fast.

Do you mean, dries out fast on your eyelid? Or In the container?
There are several thing's you can do to, keep it on..without water/cracking/drying. MAC Cosmetics, sell's a cream colour base, and eye paints. I would choose a very light colour, so you can keep your "Pink Shade". MAC is all about colour, alot of pigment..so you might look for a color that's close your your Fav. shade :-) Back in the day, I also sold an eyelid foundation...best thing to do, is hit your local drugstore and look high and low. So many products, so little time, LOL ~LL |

Always use a foundation and put translucent powder over it so it works as a "base" on which your eyeshadow can adhere. Apply with a high quality brush
such as Mac or Shue Umera, don't use that cheap applicator shit. Using the right tools/brushes is very important. I don't use water at all. If you use a high quality eyeshadow like Mac which is pigmented it really shouldn't "dry out". I always use a frosty neutral shade on top of the foundation as a base too, and all the dark stuff on top. I can only recommend a frosty pink color as a "Base" on which to build a smoky eye look. I Personally do not like pink eye shadow by itself, it makes people look like they have a bruised and fucked up looking eyes. Also, gfy is not the place for makeup questions. I highly suggest makeupalley.com, I go there a lot and it's the place for makeup reviews/tips. Besides the net, makeup is my hobby... i used to live for it... |

put chapstick or a small dab of vasoline on your eyelid & then use the tip of your finger several times.
that will make the powder thick AND stay on for 24 hours at least. |

yep. base underneath the shadow plus a good product and good applicators. although for shadows, i think sponge gives a heavier color than a brush. i've always been impressed with princess marcella borghese shadows.

I would think that Vaseline or chapstick would make it more greasy and slide off though? ... Try those MAC Paint things, I heard they stay on forever but i haven't tried any yet though. A lot of the MA's at MAC are stuck up bitches too and act like they are too busy when you are trying to buy stuff, but SOME are nice though (not many though).

The wet brush method is a common suggestion, but I've found the effect doesn't last that long, and in fact it dilutes the colour. I just got some decent creme eyeshadows (Revlon is great) and played with them instead. Sparkly and light with great colour. Just be careful with eyeliner, because it smudges easily.

Thank you very much all. Trying to get my makeup dark enough to look decent for shoots, since I'm so pale I tend to look washed out.
Appreciate the advice lots!

Otherwise when it is dry I find that it not only doesn't last but it is almost impossible to even get it out of the package. Unless your buying loose powder make-up. But if first put on a nutrulizing base. (Normally a white cream that cuts down on oil production - PH balances your skin) Then it will tend to last longer. But it also should go without saying. By good make up not the cheap stuff and good brushes. (I find good brushes are more important that good make up.) Hopefully this helps you out. |
