Man i dont want to even talk about this shit.
My sister just spent two days in the hospital for what seemd to be appendicitis, they then ran a few tests and told her to go home with out operation. Two days, a few tests and a bill for $15,000. Insurance is expensive but thank god for it.

Check with your accountant. Bush signed some kind of plan last year where you can put 2,000 into a tax free trust fund and then get some type of health insurance from which is less than 150 a month. If you ever have to pay out of pocket it comes from the 2,000 you put into that fun.
Ask your accountant I'm a bout to set mine up |

195 a month for me and 165 a month for my kid. So around $360 a month for Kaiser here in Los Angeles. Co-pay changes every year so I can't remember it anymore.

While we're on the subject of health insurance....those of you that have individual policies......are they allowed to drop you or single you out for a rate increase?
For instance I buy a policy and the rate is good for a year....then in month 11 I get diagnosed with leukemia or some shit like that. When my policy comes up for renewal are they allowed to drop me or just raise my premium to like 3K a month or something?? I know when you're in a group plan through an employer you're covered in those situations, but I don't know what the rules are for individuals. ![]() |

I currently use the NASE shit and it sucks fucking goat balls...
$160 which sounds good but the copay is like $100 for nothing and $1000 for anything major. Add an additional 20% for just about anything to that too... So if you go to the hospital on this shit and have a $10,000 bill you would owe $2000 + $1000 deductable for $3000... It is basically making me wonder... WHAT THE FUCK DO I HAVE INSURANCE FOR? Going to have to find something better than this shit. |

I actually use my wifes plan with her work, and I don't offer any plans to my employees. I know it sucks, but health insurance is a nightmare I don't want to get into.
I just make up for it by paying a little more to them. |

BCBS, $333 a month, $500 deductible, $20 office visits, $25 prescrips. That's a whole lot less than I'd be paying in extra income taxes if I lived in Canada ;)
Lenny2 - in GA you cannot be dropped (UNLESS you go either 30 or 60 days w/o paying) or your rates raised higher than others in your age group. That's great if you're sick, but not so great if you're not and everyone pays the same amount. |

find a "good" health insurance guy in your area.. if he is good.. he will get you on a plan that will benefit you more... never overpay.. if you are paying $390/month . that is $4680/yr... plus copays and prescriptions!!!. if you go for a physical once a yr.. thats an expensive physical.. . I would think that you are a young healthy buck.. so a high deductible with a discount plan and a Health savings account would suit you well.. plus its a tax savings vehicle.. as well ;)

That's pretty fucked up. At least with the more expensive policy you get to deduct all of the premiums. I'll have to crunch some numbers to see which is best overall. |

I'm talking about an individual policy that you buy when you're healthy, and then when you get sick they jack the rate up so high that you can't afford it. That's something you don't have to worry about if you're insured through your employer. In that case you always pay the same amount that all the other employees pay. |

I'm getting speechless reading this...
OK.. Two examples, neither of which apply to the US (OK you only excluded Canadians Juicy!).... Total healthcare in Costa Rica - it's on par with the US healthcare in ranking (tho not in cost!) costs $240/year for a family of four and includes *all* medical treatment, dental, scripts and maternity blah. One friend from the US moved here with his wife and two children and ended up in hospital - he is still stunned at the standard of care he got for next to nothing. He was used to the ripoff. Another example is air ambulance service from a Caribbean island to any country ya want for urgent treatment costs $850 per person/year. BUT.. If you elect to land in the US for this treatment, the rate goes up to.. think it's around $3K/year, but can't be sure, - I skipped that kind offer. It's cheaper to fly to Europe, Canada or, hell anywhere.

i dont have health insurance. i rarely get sick, and i never go anywhere so the odds of me getting injured are slim to none. now, once me & the boyfriend get married, I'll be fully covered..he works for Pepsi Co. and he is 100% covered from head to toe, and the benefits will extend to me once im the Mrs.
if i need to go to the hospital, i just pay cash upfront. |

Paying $370 a mth for 2. It's BCBS with $15 copay for doc's with $300 deductible.
All in all, insurance in this country is WAY to expensive! Auto insurance is pretty bad here too. We got 3 cars. 2 mustangs and 1 jeep. Coverage for them all is $340 a mth. In New Zealand full coverage for car is $30 a mth and covers any driver over the age of 25 driving the car. Anyway, what can ya do? If you had no coverage you'd probably be sick all the time. LOL It would be just my luck! LOL
