Send them alternetely obscene, alternately threatening mail, samples of your own semen and poo, find out where they live and hide in the bushes outside, armed to the teeth.
You'll soon meet them - in court. Worked for me.

Write them a letter and ask for an interview. You claim you have a radio show in a hospital which is targeted for kids who have to spend some time in the hospital. It's a volunteer job of course
and it would make the kids very happy! I actually did this once and felt so fucking guilty that I actually went the hospital in my town, handed over the interview including 5 tour shirts which I bought so they could give them away to their listeners, the guys at the radio station didn't understand shit about....wow I feel relieved now that this is of my chest. DynaMite :D

I usually call the venue that is hosting the performance and tell them I am a photojournalist with a local publication. I usually have no problem getting into the venue and getting right up on stage for the photos.
I guess this only works if you really are a photojournalist. Since I am a freelanceer this may work for you - they rarely ask for a tear sheet. The biggest celeb I've shot is Joan Jett.

We had the band Lit just show up at our party at January's Internext. Now that's an easy way to meet a band. Too bad I'm not an MTV fan and didn't know who they were.
I've met quite a few bands, but to be honest, I think they get fed up with people who bug them at their buses and shit like that... anyway, it's usually pretty disappointing to meet them in person. |

I was a roadie for 5 years, and toured with everybody from Kid Rock, to Eminem, to B.B. King, The best way of getting backstage that I saw, was to show up very early and start hanging out with the road crew, that way when the security guards start showing up, they will think you are with the road or local crew, and I saw people get handed passes all the time when they did this, cause at some point in the day the promoter goes around and hands out the passes for the local crew, and if you are around you could get one.

The best, and only tried-and-true way, to meet any band, is to just throw a festival, show, concert, party, etc., and invite them to play. Then it's your job to hang out with them, and do whatever. And unless you fuck up something really bad, they're going to be pretty cool with you...since you just gave them $10,000-$30,000 to jam out. Of course some planning is involved, but I recommend this as a very fun and profitable hobby.

Or throw a public party, charge 15 bucks a head, invite 2,000 people, and be sure to get a percentage from the bar. Then instead of being out 20 grand for a band, you're up $10,000 and you had the time of your life. |

There are a few ways. I used to be a promoter and always admired the creative ways people try/tried to get backstage.
If you are not of the hottie female persuasion, it's much tougher. There are a few things. you can do. Make friends with people in ticketbooth at the venue and you can often get access to things like tickets before they go on sale and laminants. You can also find out which security company generally contracts out to a particular venue and go take a job with them for one or two shows. Make friends with as many of these guys as you can. As a security guard for hire, you can often meet the band as well as learn the layout of the venue and even the people associated with the venue who have access to laminants. Make yourself highly visible so they recognize you. For clubs and smaller venues who often employ the same doormen each time (or full time if it's a club), make friends with the doormen. Look them in the eye, offer a handshake (even if you don't know them). Become a "regular". Then once the recognize you, you can get into venues easier and often score laminants that way. You should also "dress the part". Dress up a bit and wear your shades. Look "important". (some people overdo this and it looks silly, so practice ;)). You can also create yourself a little booklet/zine at your local Kinko's and use that to gain press credentials. Then you can often score tickets and passes for event. Again, after this become highly visible. Find out who the booking agent is and contact them for a press interview (for bigger bands, though, you often get shoved into a press room with a bunch of other press people...this sucks, because press people are assholes ;))) You can create your own tear sheet as mentioned above and with computers and graphics and printers these days, it's pretty easy to just create your own. Most promoters/booking agents don't check as long as everything looks "in order". I could get in major trouble for letting this out, (but fuck it, I'm not in the biz anymore ;)), often security doesn't look closely at your credentials or laminants. If you are artistic and have access to band logos, you can always "recreate" laminants and go down to Kinko's (these guys fucking rock ;))) and get your laminants laminated ;)). Fan sites will often show pervious backstage passes so you can gt an idea of what they look like. There are also different types of laminants. You have your average ordinary backstage passes, then your all access passes. Backstage gets you to like the first level of backstage and All Access gets you access basically anywhere (including the craft services area ;))). Dawgy, on your short notice, could be very tough. Try calling the venue and find who's booking the show and then try to contact them for "an interview" for a website or publication (this close to the event they may not even check as long as you sound like you know what you're talking about ;)) Some day, I'll have to post my story of the recent Golden Globes afterparty and how I got a picture with superhottie Katie Holes and Brad Shaw's favorite celebrity Gary Busey ;))))))

She's a fake ~ just like the girl Ricki Martin took to the Grammys two years ago. A plant set up by an agent to ward off Rainbow Rumors.
I don't have any proof, and I'm basing this theory on fairy dust nothings but if it helps my Dawgy have happy dreams then it's true enough for me.

i have a different idea -
considering, you know someone who is member of a band, which is fairly famous (MTV-status), and you know a couple of different things about him (what guitar he plays, when he tours, his style and other shit), but since you only talked to him on ICQ and he would not tell ya who the fuck he is, you have NO FUCKING CLUE who it might be. any suggestions ??? ![]() |

I agree with Cheshire.. if it's in an indoor venue with a capacity under 2000, just show up early.. you'll get into the show free too. I usually show up around 5:30.

I sing in an alternative metal band. Most of the shows I go to are anywhere from Jazz to Rock to Heavy Metal. Really.. I think it'd be harder at a pop concert. Rock stars like their ego's stroked.. so if you can't think of anything to say, just make it a compliment, and you'll get along famously.
