Everytime I seee it on tv they never seem to mention that Canada Won that war and is t he only war the americans ever lost, they always talk about how the americas came into canada and what they destroyed but not what we did. THere is a reason why your white house is white, we candians burned that bitch down ;) so you amaericans face facts we kicked your ass back then but Im not expecting that the next time you guys invade us ;)

Actually, the BRITISH burned it down. I doubt there were that many Canadians serving pre-confederation that considered themselves "Canadian" and instead probably called themselves "British" or "English"

well... more than half of the British forces were made up of Canadian militia.. and yes.. they were considering themselves Canadians...

Let's get technical then. There was no confederation. The French considered themselves "Le Canadien" perhaps, but the folks in upper canada were mostly british loyalists. NOT seperatists. And thus pre confederation - BRITISH.

My girlfriend was born and raised in California.. she should have her Canadian citizenship next year. She's always surprised at the way she learned things about American history. How they don't really ever tell you things that make America look bad. All that stuff gets whitewashed from the texts. Especially about American 'Manifest Destiny' even back then, taking land from Mexico and trying to take land from Canada. But we consistently beat you guys back and more. We were nice though, we gave most of it back.

I agree with you for sure, but living and seeing both Canadian and American school systems, the American system is WAY more self serving and full of "America is always the Good Guy" type of propaganda. From an early age. My son has gone to school here three years and I've already had to set him straight on things, especially history. And lets not talk geography. When I see a map that has nothing but the Continental US, Hawaii off to the South west and Alaska up there all by itself as if it isn't connected to anything. No wonder chldren grow up believing they are an island. They almost have to be in College to learn anything about the rest of the world.
