Purchasing Impressions vs. Clicks
I was having a conversation with some adult webmasters about purchasing impressions vs. clicks. Is it still done?
Anyone here purchase impression based text or banner ads? What is the going rate for these (say for 1,000,000)? What is the rate for purchasing clicks? Does anyone have a breakdown on these types of purchases for specific types of traffic? SE TGP Freehost Other

RT,
From what I've seen, the rate for adult ads floats around $1 per CPM. CPM = Cost Per 1000 impressions (M being the roman numeral for thousand). A vertical banner ad on the Hun will run you about that... Maybe less depending on traffic flow for the month. As I recall, a banner ad on Stile Project will also price out somewhere around $1 per CPM... But I could be totally off since it's been a while since I've seen Stile's rate card. Also, most of these sites require a minimum purchase. So, you're looking at around $1000 for a campaign. Fro |

Hey, no problem.
I guess I should have added that you can usually only calculate your CPM cost (like I've done) at the end of the campaign since many sites sell you advertising on potential traffic. Much like television and radio advertising, they give you estimated impressions at the time of sale. However, unlike radio and television, you can run your own accurate program analysis at the end of the month. The real question: Will your campaign convert at such a rate so that you're at least breaking even? Fro |

CPC and CPM are simply metrics. CPC guarantees a visitor to your site, but a good media placement (banner or text) should also pull.
So, let's say you're paying $.05 per click from your target site and I'm running a banner that pulling a 2% CTR. I'm paying $1 per CPM. 1000 impressions x .02 = 20 clicks. Or, $.05 per click. The quality of the clicks to our sites might still not justify the cost of the traffic no matter how we're billed for them. If we're converting 1:2000 on a $2.95 trial (typical of the TGP traffic I've seen), we just spent $100 to sign that customer up. Ack! We'd better focus on member retention or pay less for that shitty traffic. Fro |
