i have a solo s2, its supposedly the best cordless one but I haven't yet had a chance to use it. escort 8500 is really good if you dont care about having cables etc. what you really need these days is a laser deflector but those are illegal and fucking expensive.

If you're not going to get a Valentine 1 then all the others are pretty much the same, buy the one that's a decent price and isn't too annoying... I had a cheap ass one for 2 years that worked great, saved me a handful of times where otherwise I would have gotten busted... The V1 was a nice upgrade though, but not all that necessary if you're on a budget

You don't usually get speeding tickets every day... A detector only has to save you once to pay for itself. I've had a handful of time where I've turned onto an empty stretch of highway at night and started accelerating, only to have the detector warn me about a lone cop way up the road coming out of a gas station who would have surely pulled me over if I had gone by the speed I planned to be going.

I'd say my budget is $300.
From what I've read this one is the best: "Escort Passport 8500 X50"

I could care less about the ticket price, all I care about is the insurance and the potential suspension.
I got a speeding ticket a couple months ago - 80 in a 55. I was going 90-100, and "racing" so I didn't feel it was right for me to fight the ticket. I got 4 points on my license, leaving 2 left until a suspension.

I have a valentine 1... It's pretty cool, but it's ONLY benefit over the others are the directional arrows..
And of course, if the cop is using laser (like 50% of 'em do), it won't help you at all..

Valentine 1 or the Escort Passport are both good ones... Just be aware there are several states that will confiscate the radar detector if they find you are using one. Yes, they do have radar detector detectors.

BTW, does anyone remember those detectors that were on the market a few years back that detected the signal from Police and HP vehicles radios? That would be idea.

I've never had one since I bought mine (and I had plenty before it). I think it's a cobra, not positive. It's a good investment!
