You should also note how hilarious it is to start a thread questioning the reasons behind the lack of response in New Orleans, then posting an article that shows the people of MS are pissed at the lack of response there also. Absolutely hilarious. |

I can see the asswipes right now... thinking about they will line there pockets when the rebuilding starts.... the poorest state in the USA and the most corrupt. And they will stay poor until the people vote'm out of office. Which ain't going 2 happen, like I said been going on before Long's time.

Ahh but the difference is my people are not suffering anywhere near as those in the Superdome and the Convention Center in New Orleans.. no where close. New Orleans has much bigger problems that need to be addressed immediately such as huge fires, the downtown area of a LARGE city is flooded. MS problems are pale compared to that. The difference is no one is blaming the MS governor, they are commending him for his response to far. This isnt a personal attack on you but you are acting like it is. Face the facts that your governor is a very weak leader that has done nothing so far except ASK and BEG for help? A good leader helps him/herself and doesnt wait around for a handout. |

Bottom line: Governor of the great state of Louisiana is a disgrace as a leader and should resign within 48 hours as a favor to her constituents.
Haha I'm done with you guys |

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Nine stockpiles of fire-and-rescue equipment strategically placed around the country to be used in the event of a catastrophe still have not been pressed into service in New Orleans, five days after Hurricane Katrina, CNN has learned. Responding to a CNN inquiry, Department of Homeland Security spokesman Marc Short said Friday the gear has not been moved because none of the governors in the hurricane-ravaged area has requested it. A federal official said the department's Office for Domestic Preparedness reminded the Louisiana and Mississippi governors' offices about the stockpiles on Wednesday and Thursday, but neither governor had requested it. (See the mayor blister feds for requiring formal queries for help -- 0:34) The gear -- including generators, radios, breathing apparatus, cots and other items -- is stockpiled by DHS in nine locations. The three closest to New Orleans are College Station, Texas; Columbia, S.C.; and Clearwater, Fla. The gear is intended to replenish or sustain up to 150 first responders. Contractors who maintain the gear are required to transport it to a disaster site no later than 12 hours after the initial request is made by local authorities and approved by DHS. Short said that while the stashes contain some items like generators, much of the gear would not be useful in the circumstances faced by the Gulf Coast region. But Steve Beaumont, a retired contract manager for Homeland Security's Prepositioned Equipment Program, said the gear would be helpful for fire departments wiped out by the hurricane. Each pod has 200 radios, including sophisticated equipment to make radios inter-operable, tying different communications systems together. (Watch the video of first responders in 'hell' -- 3:25) "The concept was basically, if you had a major incident, this equipment could be brought into the city and reconstitute the local first responders. So they get fresh bunking gear, breathing apparatus," Beaumont said. Each stockpile consists of a tractor-trailer filled with $2.2 million in gear, he said. Contractors are on call 24 hours a day to move the gear. "There has been no movement of this equipment to this emergency. As of now there's been no movement at all," Beaumont said. (See the video of the mayor demanding feds to 'get off their asses' -- 12:09) "I think it's sad because you've got almost ... $20 million worth of gear that's ready to be distributed. You've firefighters (in New Orleans) fighting fires in shorts. That tells me they're running out of stuff." The project is run by DHS' Office for Domestic Preparedness. Hope no one you know has anything burn. |

If the govenor is confused and unable to request help in the proper sequence doesn't the federal govt have an obligation to assist her in filling out the form?? Feds "we can not enter until you give us the password." Gov "I do not remeber it" Feds "wow, are you fucked. People are giong to die and we are going to blame you" Sorry, your arguement is insane. |

I am absolutely amazed at some of you people. Your true ignorance shines through and it is very sad that you breathe the same air I breathe. Most of it is nothing but armchair politics from people who have never even been to the 'nolia.
"They were TOLD to get out of the city weren't they? It's their fault they got stranded. They didn't listen." "They were TOLD to take 5 days rations with them. It's their fault they don't have any food or water. They didn't listen." "How could they not have gas to get out of the city. Don't these people have gas cans in their garages for their lawn mowers. They could have gotten a gallon or so out of that couldn't they?" "Oh come on... Everyone owns a car." "How can a person not have $50 bucks in the bank for a motel room? Well even if they didn't they could have used their debt card." "What do you mean they didn't want to leave their homes? You mean someone would actually want what those people have?"

Mississippi is not a national joke because of whats going on. Louisiana is. The citizens are acting like fools and so are the local elected officials. I never "talked shit" I stated facts and it seems you are taking it personally. |

just read your last post. 9 tractor trailers of fire fighting equipement is not the type of response that most americans would expect in this type of situation. I seriously am very surprised that we do so much more for other countries and our own people are ignored. Republicans must really love forms and protocol.

I wasnt arguing, I've been stating facts. Read the fucking article. She hasnt done shit to get help with the massive fires that are burning, if you cant see that with proof posted, then there is absolutely no point in mentioning anything else, because no amount of evidence would change your mind. |

A Navy Seal team could have rushed in after 24 hours of no gevenor response and secured her. No need to force her at gun point or any of those things. But considering the chaos maybe it is hard for the govenor to find the form or phone number needed. The president could have gone on TV and asked her to do the right thing. She is doing nothing then the other side could do something. This is not a pissing match but an attempt to help people. |

I remember once my daughter fell and hit her head, before they would even look at her, they tried drilling me about HOW it happened, I looked at them straight in their faces and told them to fucking take care of her and THEN they were free to drill me all they wanted... same thing here....... GO FIX THOSE PEOPLE AND POINT FINGERS LATER!!!!! After those people have shelter and food and what they need to survive, then spend the rest of their lives blaming, I don't care, but take care of those people FIRST! I am not mad at you and I am not trying to make it sound that way, but I am a little sick of this blame game that is going on here, there are people dying and all anyone can do is stand around pointing fucking fingers, that's just a crock. |

sometimes you cant fix things without finding the cause of the problem. the problem here was not a hurricane. sure the hurricane caused flooding and killed people. the problem is the response of the residents in that area. get the problem ie governor out of the way by her stepping down, and a big part of the problem will be gone and things can get going. |

detoxed, some good came out of this. I finally got off my ass and made a donation. I also called to see what I can do to help when people show up in my state tomorrow.
I realized that it is us that have to do something. We cannot all stay on vacation and wait to be asked. |

So you are telling me that in order for them to come in and send troops in to get control of things and to stabalize the situation, they need to get HER out of the way to do this? Maybe I am missing something, but I didn't think she had the authority to call in the guards, so to speak......... she can request them, which she DID.... but past that, what blame does she hold in this? I guess I am just stupid because I just don't get that. People are killing, raping and stealing and shit, but this is her doing? Who does it fall on to get troops in there? I guess once you find that out, then there is where your fingers should be pointing...... I DO realize she is accountable for things, but she is one person, she can't do all that by herself, I don't care who she is, she isn't god! Right? Irregardless of any of this though. those people need help and someone needs to get off their asses in ALL of those states and get it done. All I am saying is take care of things and then blame later, they are spending way too much precious energy blaming everyone and their brother. I guess if you want to get technical about this, you can JUST about blame anyone, but what's that going to fix here and now? I am NOT a political person, so I could care less about politics, but any idiot can see those people need help and could probably care two shits about poilitics right now. And YES I am aware everything is about politics, doesn't mean I have to like it. Right? |

Exactly!!! The minute I get paid, I have already alloted some of my pay to this cause. I don't donate much and I mean it, if I had the means, I would put a family or so up, I just don't have the means for that, but I am donating when I get paid. But this has been a plan since it happened. But maybe this will do it for others as well.... and if this is the case, then this was a very good thread. |

plain and simple failure of the local leadership. The mayor and governor knew the city was succeptable to flooding. Where are all the boats the police should have to maintain order? I mean come on...These people couldn't even hold out for a couple of days until the feds got involved. That's pathetic.

I imagine there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other communities responding the same way. If you really want to help, give blood as soon as you can and try to recruit others to give blood. |

That is awesome and how it should be.... people helping people. That is great that your community, as well as others, are stepping up. As for blood, I can't give blood myself, I have this little heart thing called a mitral valve prolapse and they won't let me give blood.. but I do agree, that's a good idea and I would be willing to bet they are having blood drives around here, they always do when this sort of thing happens. My kids schools are all making care packages for them, they sent the forms home with them yesterday, which makes my kids feel good and like they are doing something to help. detoxed, that's fine..... and I respect what you are saying, but I still don't think blaming is doing anything at this point in the game. Hell, I ain't even gonna point the finger at Bush or anyone else... just get them helped, that's all MY point is, anyone else can have all the points they wanna have, MY point is just get them help and don't waste precious energy doing anything else right now. |
