Zone edit question

My main domain which I created name servers for my server with is at directnic. As a precaution I registered at zone edit and added that domain name and created the 2 name servers with zone edit. Is the next step to redirect the directnic name servers for that domain to ns2 and ns3.zoneedit.com? Should I do this now or wait a day or two.

All my sites use this name server (ex ns1.mydirectnicdomain.com, ns2.mydirectnicdomain.com) to connect to the server.

Thanks!

No.

Go to your registrar, DirectNic, and add the 2 new name servers to the actual one. Do not delete the original ones, at least till the new ones propagate thru the system ( can be as long as 72 hours ! ) .
Then check with http://www.checkdns.net/quickcheck.aspx to see that the new DNS servers are actually working. At this point, you could delete the first 2 original ones if you wish.

at zoneedit, you created an account and name servers, like ns17.zoneedit.com & ns23.zoneedit.com. Add those at the registrar ( Directnic ), where you already have as listed the 2 of Dnic...
Do not delete your actual NS !

But I created a NS at zone edit with the 2 ip's of the server. Wouldn't this replace the dns servers I created at directnic when I redirect the directnic domains nameservers to ns2.zoneedit.com and ns3.zoneedit.com?

Did this at zone edit

IP Addresses
Name Numeric IP Delete
ns1.mydomain.com server ip
ns2.mydomain.com server ip

Now can I just redirect the name servers of mydomain.com via DirectNIC to ns2 and ns3.zoneedit.com?

You create a zone.

you enter:

mysite.com ---------> 209.209.209.5 ( your site IP )

same for mail:

mail.mysite.com ----------=> 209.209.209.5
or without " mail "... mysite.com ----------> 209.209.209.5

On the summary ( front page ) you will see :

Nameservers:
ns12.zoneedit.com 11.72.158.226
ns38.zoneedit.com 11.180.174.61

You go back to your registrar, and ADD the 2 NS servers ( either the name - ns23.zone... oo the IP ).

You do not redirect anything ... if they go down, redirect will not work.
