Guess which Texas company is getting the contract to build all the refugee housing?

Quoting KRL's post :

HALIBURTON !!!

Now we know why they shipped them all to Houston instead of northern Louisiana which would have been more logical.

Sorry about the quote, but this desereved a thread ;)

Actually it should have been the one able to react the quickest to make the people move the closest possible from where they are now, making it possible to move more people faster.

People tend to forget that Halliburton is a huge capable company. Sure they get obvious favortism, but in most cases they're the best company for the job anyway.

The Bush Administration would never award a contract to a corporation simply based upon their contributions and connections to the Administration!

Why, that would be seen as seditious and anti-American to many.

Let's see...so who benefitted most from the Bush tax cuts and record deficit spending? The rich, the oil industry, the military-industrial complex. Amazing, huh?

There are huge budget deficits and a huge national deficit. So who will have to pay the most to rectify this situation? (Hint: not the people/corporations who recieved the biggest tax cuts).

No one could possibly be profiting from the war in Iraq...or could they? Surely not the same people who contributed to electing Bush...

Hoping everyone is not as stupid as the current U.S. President...

So Halliburton ONLY gets contracts because of political contributions?

It's not a massive, capable company?

One wonders how Halliburton ever survived the Clinton years if they get contracts "simply based upon their contributions.".

Something's simple here, but it turns out it's you, Simon.

Off course they CAN do it ... but at what cost ? and are there smarter ways to do it then pass by them ? I'd say ... in this situation ... it's pretty far .

It's certainly fair to say that Halliburton appears to get favorable treatment.

However, I don't think it's fair to dismiss the capablity of that company based only treament from one aministration. Halliburton got to be a global giant long before Dick Cheney was Vice President.

there is really no time for a formal bidding process, preparing specs and letting them out to tender....in cases like this the govt would go to a contractor that has done acceptable similar work in the past...

I would say that the American Red Cross is just as capable as Haliburton to handle this situation...but that would be silly, because the American Red Cross is a non-profit agency, while Haliburton exists to enrich stockholders and executives like past-CEO Dick Cheney (and help elect him to political office).

They did a great job ... but let's just say that they are making the bank with the Bush administration... aren't they ?

here's an idea, sheep. why don't you make a list of all the companies logistically capable of handling it. then when you get that done, list the bids they put in, in descening order please. then we can look at the merits of your blind hatred rhetoric. until then, shut the fuck up.

Actually, as I understand it, Halliburton has paid big fines for inflating costs and corruption in Iraq and elsewhere (malfeasance/misfeasance), etc.

Corporations should not be allowed to profiteer from war or natural disasters.

When this is allowed, they take license to tip the political/social/economic scales in their favor, by whatever means necessary.

Who is taking care of stuff when it's not in the USA ? Most of the time it's the red cross ... make a big donation to the red cross and I'm sure they'll be able to take care of things wouldn't they ?

There are many "can-do" compagnies in the US ... building refuge camps shouldn't be THAT hard ...
