director of FEMA has just made my list
is this guy in touch with our reality? a lot of the people who stayed were so poor they had no cars, were elderly or unable to travel. more had cars but no money for gas. my friends left NO on saturday, and people were calling out for rides away from the area. they didn't stay from stubbornness - a lot of them were literally unable to leave.
"Michael Brown also agreed with other public officials that the death toll in the city could reach into the thousands. "Unfortunately, that's going to be attributable a lot to people who did not heed the advance warnings," Brown told CNN. "I don't make judgments about why people chose not to leave but, you know, there was a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans," he said. "And to find people still there is just heart-wrenching to me because, you know, the mayor did everything he could to get them out of there. "So, we've got to figure out some way to convince people that whenever warnings go out it's for their own good," Brown said. "Now, I don't want to second guess why they did that. My job now is to get relief to them."" |

Did the city have any plan for this?
You would think that a city below sea level that had an 80% chance of a major hurricane hitting like this would have a plan? They bussed 77% of the poor to vote for Kerry the last election so why couldn't they bus them out starting last Saturday and Sunday when they knew they would be hit ? |

thanks for bringing extraneous politics into it, but i am only speaking of what brown said. either he doesn't care or he doesn't know - that's so sad for those poor people.
and btw, i seriously doubt that ANY state is ready for an emergency this size - and if they are, i bet having their entire national guard is part of that plan. |

Who put that idiot in power? Seriously? He is completely clueless and is in a position that is well beyond his capacity.

I'm sorry but there is always a solution for everything ... I'm sure 3/4 of the people that are still there could have found a way.
Thing is, thoses warnigns happen often there, and people stoped taking it that seriously |
