Funny you mentioned that! Because of the shooting already done, it's a very, very, very bad idea to get blood in that water. There are predators from the salt water and fresh water habitats already loose and once they smell blood it's fuck all crazy.

Until they shoot you in the face. The cops there now have a very bad situation on their hands. They are not equipped for this shit. If they go around shooting looters it will cause problems that are a lot worse. They are waiting on reinforcements and focusing on saving as many people as they can for the time being.

I agree - These people must be just about giving up hope I would think. What should they do? They are fucked.

They see a Rolex in a shop window and think that is enough to get them out of the nightmare, it may even save thier life.

At least if the Guard turn up it may give them some hope that someone is doing something and they dont have to do this just to survive.

I can't agree or disagree, I haven't been to enough other towns down south - but from my experience, Canal Street is a hole. Bourbon Street is the height of tackiness and if you walk 2 streets either side of it you'll feel like you're in Compton.

I was staying in a hotel on Canal during the SEO conference a few months back. Everyone complained at how terrible it was. They won't be back (at least not that hotel).

But, to the point, I had a wonderful view of an abandoned office building across the street (it was for sale - do I hear $50 epass?) and beside that another lower building was being demolished. The street is full of stores and was in bad need of a cleaning.

On top of that everyone warned us not to walk back to the hotel late at night. We did anyway and it wasn't a big deal - but if this is the main tourist area and supposed to be the "face" of the city, it's not very promising.
