If you've never visited New Orleans, you may never have a chance to.

God this is really sad. If this storm hits like it is supposed to, the city will basically be destroyed. With the storm surge at 25 feet and 170+ mph winds, the whole of downtown may be underwater for MONTHS.

I just hope to hell that they get everybody out of there. This is going to be complete catastrophie.

if you owned property in New Orleans, last week would have been a great time to sell it.

....and I don't think that people realize what winds that strong do to buildings. I have heard some webmasters from N. O. saying that they will stay there on the fifth floor, so that they won't get flooded, and that the building will be ok. I've been through enough hurricaines to tell anyone that is thinking of staying in N.O. to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. Those winds will blow buildings apart like a bomb.

riding out the hurricane is only the beginning.
after the storm their will be as much as 20 feet of water complete with the bodies of dead animals and dead people rotting and causing disease.
sounds like a real good time.

Riding it out? NO ONE should try to "ride it out". I'm telling you, a Cat 5 hurricaine will destroy that place and KILL people that are "riding it out"

IF THERE ARE ANY WEBMASTERS IN NEW ORLEANS STILL ON THIS BOARD... GET THE HELL OFF LINE AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.

If they are still here, do you really think they will be " brilliant" enough to leave ?????

Too bad. I drove to N.O. early 80's in vy 57 vette. Had a great time , except for the few days were the Schriners were in town ....

Sorry, but that is EXACTLY the WRONG advice. I don't know where you live but I've been through a few hurricaines. You should actually board up, then you should tape the edges of the windows shut. The "open the windows" thing is actually an old wives tale.

the winds will destroy every building in N.O. without a doubt, the waves will just wash everything away & bring up ocean critters & dead bodys floatin around. its going to be really bad if its still a Cat 5 come morning.

The sad thing is, New Orleans is below sea level. Like -40'. So the town is going to act like a giant catch basin for the water. Feel bad for anyone living down there.

I was watching the news - apparently NOLA is basically a bowl between the Mississippi and Lake Pontchartrain. It will just fill up with water and pumping it back out will be slow. It's not like an ocean community where there's waves of water and then it goes back to the ocean after a bit

Sure there will e plenty of news coverage. Bet cable networks have unmanned cameras all over the place.

A bunch of people are stuck and can't get out. No rent-a-car available, airport closed, so they would have to walk. A lttle late now.

The open the window tale is for tornados....

Here's a bunch of info on exactly why NOLa is basically the worst place for a Hurricane of this magnitude to hit:

CNN's developing story.

Um, so if they live on the fifth floor, what are they going to do for internet connection/phones/food for the next few months? I doubt many restaurants will be delivering for a while...

Really bad situation. I was glad it was heading more to the West, but now I almost feel guilty about it. I doubt all the things/places I loved there, will still be around next time I'm there.

No offense, but do what? Tell this storm to go away? This is potentially the strongest storm to hit an urban area in the US.... EVER.

People keep talking about New Orleans like its the only place about to get taken out. This storm is going to nail many states as well and will cause massive flooding deep into the middle of the US.

New Orleans is going to be underwater for months.

Plus you've got 1 million people who fled who will have no where to come back to. No jobs. No homes. No businesses. No schools. No supplies.

What's the plan for these 1 million people?

I was working with a lady who I met in New Orleans on a project - she spent the entire summer helping her parents build a fabulous new home ... it was just completed a few weeks ago, and then this.
