I never ever thought I would see Tom T Hall posted on GFY...especially by SykkBoy :-) What a refreshing site. I don't listen to much stuff that's even remotely country now, but you do have to give respect where it's due. Shit, all of these guys tought me a lot growing up.

These guys were all hardcore...telling it the way it is...and changing a lot of rules in their day...they were recording with Elvis and Buddy Holly before rock and roll existed, they were having fun at the start of it all.

It is a sad day. And like Aaron said, the Highwaymen will all be gone soon. It really sucks...

I saw Johnny Paycheck (who also died not too long ago) when he was doing a military club tour - I saw him in Rota, Spain, the last stop on the tour. A couple of the women in the crowd I hung out with caught somebody's eye and we ended up in the Fleet Reserve club (kind of like a Navy VFW) in Rota after hours. The last thing I remember of that night was Johnny Paycheck and some Spainard who could sing just about every song Johnny Cash ever wrote, singing "Ring of Fire."

Paycheck was doing his latest single, which had just started to climb the charts back home. It was "Take This Job and Shove It." It went over VERY well at the NCO Club, let me tellya ...

A couple of the women in the crowd I hung out with caught somebody's eye and we ended up in the Fleet Reserve club (kind of like a Navy VFW) in Rota after hours. The last thing I remember of that night was Johnny Paycheck and some Spainard who could sing just about every song Johnny Cash ever wrote, singing "Ring of Fire." Paycheck was doing his latest single, which had just started to climb the charts back home. It was "Take This Job and Shove It." It went over VERY well at the NCO Club, let me tellya ...
