Every day you wake up, there is a 1 in 20,000 chance...

... that the Earth will be hit by a NEO (Near Earth Object) at least a half a mile wide or larger, causing havoc in cataclysmic proportions. Think about THAT

"Odds are you'll die somehow. For U.S. residents, here are some ways, and some odds the experts have applied to them:

Car Crash: 1-in-100

Electrocution: 1-in-5,000

Asteroid Impact: 1-in-20,000

Plane Crash: 1-in-20,000

Tornado: 1-in-60,000

1994?

For TODAYS numbers, simply multiply each 1 by 2 and divide each of the larger numbers by 3.

Listen man... playin the Lottery won't net you a win, even with statistics. It's all about the given data and of course a spin on randomality... here, look for yourself... it's everywhere:

Yes its a good way of abusing statistics without including the time, but only the damage effect.

For example there were no cars relative few years ago, so chance of getting killed in car accident was zero back then. And looking forward, I say there is a bigger chance that you will die on some highway between planet Mars and Earth, than getting hit by an asteroid.

when I wakeup in the morning I am much more concerned with the probability of me getting laid, winning money or some other pleasant thing.
some geek with a phd, no life and couldn't get laid if he tried, spouting useless horseshit is meaningless.

WTF does that mean? 55 years= 20,000 days. So if on average every day we have a 1 in 20 K chance of being hit by a mile wide NEO then on average once every 55 years we should be hot by one but we aren't. Odds are more like 1 in 20 million at best.

Actually it would have to be 65 million years old or older. Don't tell me you are one of those that believe the Earth is only 6000 years old?
