i see on plugin sites like pluginfeeds.com it says 99 bucks 15 gigs... now is that monthly? or can you purchase 15 gigs.. and then when it runs out, it recurrs? cause right now i most likely won't even be using more then 100 megs haha... but i would like to start adding some plugin feeds to help retention as well...

can someone shed some light on this?

Some base it on the members.. for example I had a feed that was $99 for upto 50 members. Then jumped like $20 or 50 per increment. So 100, $129, 150 $149, etc.

I notice a lot of the feed providers today (was shopping about two months back) do it by bandwidth moreso than members. Some do it unlimited, but their month RC is much higher.

Sorry Aaron but you are incorrect.. My sites have a very large amount of exclusive content and I'm sure ItsYourPorn and PluginFeeds will both tell you that I burn the shit out of BW.. Good feeds WILL burn bw and your members will retain longer because of good feeds.

thanks for all the feedback guys, i've decided to wait till i have a member base before investing in plugin content... main reason being that i won't even be using a gig a month of it for the beginning months since lack of a big member base.... the main reason i wanted it in the first place is because i would be a nice incentive on the join page for the surfers... however... i'll wait till i will actually be using it before purchasing it.. better to keep overhead costs down for the beginning...

I can't argue with your results man, but there are a lot of factors involved.

If only 3% of your members ever looked at them, I'd suggest you have the most and the BEST exclusive content around. Where were the feeds and how many of them did you have?

Sure if you only had one feed hidden 3 pages deep, noone will find them.

I've seen sites out there that the feeds are the ONLY content worth having on the site. You're right in that if you have a TON of GOOD exclusive content, they shouldn't attract as much attention.

If I join Ashley Brookes' site though, because she's the hottest thing out there imo, I can only snap off to her so many times before I'll want to check out something else. Why wouldn't they offer me some options instead of me HAVING to go somewhere else to find it?

Oh, if the feeds are total crap, I can see coming up with low numbers too, but still not 3%. That's REALLY low man.

At the time, there were multiple feed companies being used. I don't recall which ones.

The feeds were all put on one page and there ware links to those pages in the header, footer, and on the side of the pages just like the links to the exclusive content.

Only 3% even clicked on the bonus area content link...OR whatever it was called at the time.

Yes, there are times when feeds are a good idea. But sonofsam is running a solo girl site with 100% exclusive content and from my personal experience, feeds are not the way to go when your site has exclusive content that sells tit's members on the personality and look of one specific person.

I had a client a few months ago put up ALL of the straight AND gay feeds on a straight site...just to make it appear that he had more content.

He had almost as much traffic to the gay feeds as he did to the straight stuff.

If you're referring to me here, I'll take exception to that.

I'll NEVER sell someone something they don't need and if I think someone else has a better suited product, I'll send them over there to get it or at least SHOW them the option.

I have people inquire all the time about feeds and I wonder why they'd need them, but I don't question how they do business. As I said, I think Ashley Brookes is gorgeous, but if I'm in the mood to snap one off to hardcore and she doesn't do hardcore where can I get it? I either have to go somewhere else to get it, or they have it available for me to see there.

Note-That's seriously not meant to be a sales pitch, because I'll also tell people the honest pros and cons of purchasing content outright vs leasing feeds if they ask as well.

I didn't try to sell SoS my plugin.. I know my big-dick plugin won't work on his site. That would be marketing incorrectly..

For the record.. I'm the person that told him not to buy any feeds right now.

He will need feeds later on, they will work for his site / niche, just not my feed and not many others. Correct marketing will make the feed worth while. IYP is always a great idea to use and pluginfeeds probably has the best feeds of all feeds currently. Both will burn his BW...

The fact is that most really do it by bandwidth. The "per member" deal is really archaic since it was done that way when everyone worried about hacks that would allow way too many in and webmasters would be paranoid about having to pay the bandwidth for all the freeloaders.

In actuality, these days if you are paying "per member" prices then you are most likely paying way more than you would on a well priced bandwidth plan (did I hear someone say Homegrown Video..?) A good bandwidth plan means you are paying for exactly what your members are using and most content companies worth their salt have created security that prevents the unwanted viewers... unless of course you are letting in cracked passwords intentionally... but that is another story.

A good price on bandwidth fee plugins is probably less than the bw most people pay for the rest of their hosting because if they are successfully established to bulk buy enough bw.
