The website is fine we are doing some migration, we just got a quad xeon installed, we are going to load balance it with more for external MYSQL managment.

They are doing upgrades and as you can see above, and my day is great. I just checked and sales are double normal for a Sunday and soe one wants to add a second dedicted to their network, we have about 300 uniques from GFY.

Moreso, what hosting company does not have their sites mirrored so they have no downtime? What about webmasters who may have a question or issue right now and the only place they know to get a number for support is from your site?

but yet, specifying "network" uptime would be singling out the specificity of the network itself being up...

so, 100% uptime would mean everything overall.....specifying 100% network uptime would be just saying the network is the only thing 100% uptime because they specified "network" in the statement

Well I did learn one thing, more people do not know hosting terms as much as I thought.

Actually network uptime is based on the bandwidth providers and the hosting companies switch.

Server uptime is based on the performance of the server. If you reboot a server then you will not have 100 uptime anymore, but if you network stays live you can have 100% network uptime.

If some offers 100% network uptime they not saying your site will never go down. They are saying they have reduntant fail over system that probably will be up 100%. I don't even claim that, but this year has been 100% so far, in fact it was almost a year now since we had a issue, right before we got the switch.

Networks go down usually from dos attacks or not having reduntant bandwidth. Sometimes a cheap router will just crap out or fail.

We just installed a list price $180k switch that re-routes bandwidth so if one connection goes bad on the fly the other will tak over. Among other really cool things that it has.

I guess that's why I like saying we have 100% network uptime because it was damn hard to get. :1orglaugh (the argument that started this)

I remember days of Verio and Cogent, OMG thank god we had nice customers back in 2001, those companies where slow and had problems far to much for our taste. We tossed both of them them in 2002 and got really good bandwidth. Then we got better by combining two premium bandwidth providers together.

Anyways hope this helps explain things to those that didn't know. :thumbsup
