There is a big difference between ass kissing and respect. People are agreeing with Smokey because they respect him. Chaze said he tried to professional yet when RUI said he never heard of them and that they were not top 3 Chaze responded by calling RUI and dumbass and an asshole. How is this professional?

I am not one to get into drama threads, I do respect Smokey he is as smart as they come and would not go out of his way on something that he does not believe to be true.

Chaze did say "network" uptime, but never did say what their server uptime was. Smokey had mentioned a couple of times having a friend wait 3 days to get his sites back up and Chaze never answered this.

From what Chaze is saying they are a top 3 company since they have 100% uptime. 100% uptime means dick if it takes three days to get apache rebooted, or a server reboot or fixed from malfunction. That would be like CCbill saying, our join pages are up 100% of the time, but our merchant account may fail and take 3 days to fix. This would render them shitty. (I love and use CCbill, just an example)

The only thing Chaze is now doing in this thread is beating a dead horse and making more webmasters not want to use his hosting company. Sometimes you need to be above what others do. Learn from the best, you'll never see Sweet T in a thread demanding an apology, and calling someone an asshole, over a quote. He has a job to do.

Chaze a word of advice, go get a 12 pack, walk away from GFY for a few days and when you come back offer people reasons why they should use your hosting, and leave the pissing to NOFX, Pimpdogg, No Carrier and others.

Second word of advice, Smokey is probably the worst enemy you could make off GFY. I for one am glad he's on my list and we get along.

No one can claim they will have 100% uptime in the future.... no one. Period. I don't give a shit who you are or who you think you are, you can NOT claim 100% uptime for the future.

BUT.... some hosts have experienced 100% uptime in the PAST.... and they can rightfully claim 100% uptime in the past, if they have in fact experience it. Like in the past 6 months I'm sure there have been several hosts that have experienced 100% uptime. THEY can legitimately claim that..... but they can NOT claim that they can continue to offer it. No one can.

Well they can,... but they'd be lying. Why? Because they're not psychic, that's why.

First, I have no loyalties to Smokey...I don't know the guy. I was pissed about a few things he's done in the past to the boards, but i certainly learned from them myself. Since then, his knowlege has been incredibly helpful to the general public of this board. He's a very sharp guy.

As for being down 3 days, I don't know, never heard of it. I can ask James tomarrow about it if that's really the issue here. We have a 24 hour staff so not rebooting apache for 3 days would be very surprising.

And 100% network uptime for even the best host is very good I can assure you. As far as servers crashing most dedicated server hosts will charge for a restore we have never. Why would a site be down for three days? You can check the uptime for DWHS and I bet it's good. Someone else on GFY posted it as the best out of the top adult hosts a while back, Just as a comparison not even customer.

Maybe you would want to me to say DWHS is the the 20th..30th best? What's your point.

I do agree that not everyone knows this so if a host claims 100% network uptime some people think it means they will never be down, but we do not use this tactic. I specified network uptime for a reason and assumed the most people here new the difference.

chaze, when you say "uptime" it's generally understood to be same as "network uptime". Why should "uptime" refer more to "hardware uptime" than to "network uptime"? This is the general usage because of un-managed hosting, where keeping the server up is the job of the client not the hosting company. The term "hardware uptime" isn't actually used in hosting glossary that much, it's usually "server uptime" or "hardware failure".

He said that he knew that we did not have 100% network uptime, that's what started this.

I told him we have had 100% network uptime and that's when he went balistic and said he knew someone that was down. I said not for the network uptime it has been 100% thos year.

no one has 100% uptime, i have worked in datacenters, what happen if a blackout happens, tornado, things happen. you could be the best host in the world. things happen. mistakes. some hosts will pay for your downtime.

and on the fact on smokey. i have talked to him a couple times on icq, he is quite knowledgable. so all i can say is good things about him.
