Which Intel CPU and Motherboard Do You Recommend?

Putting together a new computer - there are so many variations of a P4 CPU and chipsets i dunno what to get. Also recommend a motherboard.

the rest i can decide on easy.

and still might just go with a Dell.

Budget?

CPU: Intel Pentium-D 840 (3.2GHz, Dual Core, 1 MB On-Die Cache Per Core, EM64T (64-Bit)) ~ 600$US
MOBO: Asus P5WD2 Premium Intel 955X Retail ~ 265$US

865$ total

No specific reconmendation, but if you plan on having this computer for more than a couple of years you might as well make sure your CPU can handle 64 bit processing. Also depends on your budget.

Anways this might help

budget isn't important on the CPU and MB - but i would never buy the latest/most expensive Intel CPU - just isn't worth the money you pay to have the newest and fastest.

thanks

Well anything in the 600 series can handle 64 bit( if that's important to you ).

All the 600 series have 2 MB L2 cache and are 800 MHz FSB with HT( of course )

630 is 3.0 GHz and is about $250
640 is 3.2 GHZ and is about $300

650, 660 and 670 are 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 GHz respectively but the 650 is almost double what a 640 is and that's not just worth an extra .2 GHz in my book.
