When I was 18 or 19 I was first introduced into a business relationship with an internationally known outlaw motorcycle club.

My first time, I was like you. Young, stupid, and saying things that were probably not quite appropriate. After we left, my buddy was kind enough to educate me to the fact that it is better to listen, rather than feel the need to talk at every opportunity. I was smart enough to pay attention, and noticed the difference on subsequent meetings.

Take it with as many grains of salt as you will.

I agree there is a learning curve, I disagree that Empress has a "unique" way of posting -- I think she has an inappropriate way of posting. I have yet to see anything relevant other than her running around the forums, making completely redundant comments and "I'd like to get to know people" which...its fine she wants to get to know people, but lets get real, this is a business, not a yahoo "Lets be friends" chat room. I've seen posts of hers talking about vampires & blood fetishes. That's great, but its like she's a 13 yr old girl that took a wrong turn on her way to http://www.vampire-online.com (where she'd fit in a whole lot better, I might add). I have personally found her posts to be inappropriate to the degree that this morning, I was questioning whether she was even of legal age to be posting on this forum. That public impression she is putting out & giving your business, goes beyond "unique" and into downright inappropriate.

Stacey--I like your attitude, my initial impression of you is WAY higher than my impression of Empress or Gio.

I am also actually shocked to learn that the "JoinRightNow" people are from a business. Dugmore--being a newbie is understandable, having questions is fine... but in all honesty I thought Empress was underage, not in the business in any way, and a sig whore that thought she had the board all figured out, slap on a sig, post a bunch & earn some money.

Baddog said it best: Respect is earned!

No truer statement has been said!!

However, I do think we should cut newbies some slack. This can be a tough and intimidating business as it is.

There are a lot of successful Goth sites. The problem is I do not have any ! I do have some teen sites which is good .... 18 and 19 that is so I guess she need to mature her posting technique from looking like a 13 year old. I do agree with you on that also.

It is hard enough for me to tutor them in every part of the business and too much time for me to read all there threads. So I appreciate your feed back and comments !

I do understand that there's a lot of successful Goth sites, if that's the area she's targetting to work on (I'm not sure how their tasks are all set up) then that's pretty cool she's got an interesting niche to work with there; just work on a little professionalism at the same time. :) Glad you understand what I'm saying...

Best of luck with everything!

Wow... this thread got interesting.

At first I'm like "oh shit please don't fire some single mother of 4 or whatever over this" but then I read that post from empress about idiocy and expressing themselves, deserving respect, and understanding the boards...

Man this is totally not aimed at anyone but the shit with off the street newbies actually representing companies and trying to drive traffic to their company's websites is unreal lately.

Go do a search for like any of the reps from any company you can think of that got hired within say the last 6 months to a year. They shouldnt' be making more than they would if they had a fucking paper route in my opinion.

It's not their fault thought at all I'm not trying to say that. It's just so hard for them now cuz it's crucial to know who's who and who is tight with who and who buys what or leases what from who and bills with whoever and history and politics...

It's crazy crazy

I agree ...... it is hard to hire people these days as sales and marketing reps cuase it is rare you find some one that is good who is not already working with a company. Starting out someone new is hard like you said becuase this business gets very complicated with all the terms and words that have been coined by our industry and all the small groups of people networked together working as one.

I try to sit with everyone we are hiring to explain to them how some of it works. I told them to go to the boards and read read read. If they feel the need to post...... only post on something they kinda know something about.

Every board is different.... some boards you get accused of spamming if try to talk about business...... other boards you get blasted if you do not talk about business.

I do not think you have to worry about her. She has a pretty good education and I am sure she will be able to find work somewhere else. I guess this job was'nt right for her. I do appraciate you bringing it to my attention becuase it is hard to watch over every single thing.

Most everyone knows Slim and I still work very closely with out affilates. We are trying to hire some people to help out with the sales and marketing. We would like to train people and teach them about what we do and how we would like it to be presented.

Dugmor...
You hired board whores. Just admit they are all useless outsourced pieces of shit and we can all go home happy. No one really cares - and will forget about all of this in 26.2 minutes anyway (it's the gfy way right?)

BTW you have dreads and run a program right? What was it called? Gia... gio.... I dunno some postwhore asshole owns it I think. Wait what? I don't care anymore. Next.

Dude you know I love you man...but come on.
Hiring some college kid out of the philippines to be an affiliate rep, sales rep, marketing rep when they don't know squat about this business, or who is in it?

Let's just call it what it is. Sigwhoring.

We are all here sigwhoring to some degree or another. But when it comes from people who have zero clue about this business, and their only job is to just respond as a webmaster, a businessman, a peer of yours it offends me as much as it offends me when the piece of shit board whores for AOS etc get busy

RRRED 08-13-2005 01:33 AM

There needs to be an affiliate rep training course :) I should do that.. gimmie half her salary for three months and ill work with her one on one... :winkwink:

Ha I sooo need to go to bed, I'm beat. I gotta get up at 7...

They may be board whores...... but they are not outsourced.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Part of learning about the business if going to the boards. Reading of course more than posting in the beginning.

I have read some of your threads and it seems like you have more a of problem with outsourced employees from the Philippines. I have never tried outsourcing, for some companies it works. I would rather work with people who are in the same office.

Some sig whores may eventually move up to become an affiliate manager but everyone still needs to start out and learn the business.

I have seen on other boards that they do not want you to post in old threads......" The things we dont like
1. Posting in OLD threads, stick to the first few pages if you want to comment in a thread. "

But I did'nt know it was agianst the GFY rules to bump up old threads.
http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/gfy_faqs.html

I will make sure everyone knows it is not allowed. Sorry about that.

I can definitely work that into the budget if you want to work with my other new employees. The only problem is after all that training. It is never a guarantee people are going to stay.

It is not a stunt. I am just keeping people up to date on what happened. Sorry you feel that way. I really do not understand the part where you are talking about sex with the dog.

Sarah_Jayne 08-13-2005 03:57 AM

I think it would do a lot of good for both them and your buisness if they were trained up about things within the industry before they started posting. Get them doing TGP galleries or submitting for a while so they actually have some real understanding of how the industry works and then they will be able to relate to the people they are talking to on the boards.

One or two board whores who actually know the industry will go a lot further than a bunch that just annoy people.

Sin 08-13-2005 04:01 AM

Dugmor your posts in this thread have earned my respect, you seem like a cool cat and Baddog told me you're a good guy. Sorry that you had a couple bad newbies that gave the boards a poor initial impression, and I wish you the best of luck in getting the rest trained properly!

Thechad -- what thread are you referring to, about sex with a dog? I haven't seen that one either... if that was one of Dugmore's newbies that is -very- bad indeed :( He seems to be putting in a good effort of turning it all around though. Just my 2cents

I have a different department that does the TGP/MGP submissions. But I did have them work with that department but only for a day to see what it is like to submit galleries.....Also in case someone in the submission department is absent they can submit to my partner accounts.

But I do agree they need to be more experienced with all aspects of the business.

polish_aristocrat 08-13-2005 04:14 AM

There are definitely people who post a lot on GFY and have a good idea of this business and buying their sigs could be probably better. But then again, the filipino guys and girls probably earn the same for being a rep. as other people would get just for their sigs or even less.

BTW I see Niche Pay Pete KT above... that reminds me that there are also lots of people with Niche Pay in their names... I guess it's a new trend to put the company's names into nicknames for branding.

When it comes to NichePay - StuarttD would be sufficient, he adds really a lot to this board so he brings them probably most business with his posts. :winkwink:

Thanks......there are still so many other things I need to take care of. We have new sites coming out that need attention to design. New models and content to shoot. Free sites to build.... ect ect ect. I am looking to hire some experienced sales reps, but like I said most of the best ones are already taken.

I appreciate RRRED as a mod and I know how hard it is to mod a forum. I agree that bumping some threads are useless.. I am trying to see what thread was bumped that was so bad.

Buying someone sig would be the easiest way out.
It has more to do with working with someone from the ground up. Teaching them what our company does and where we could benifit others. Not as much as just buying a sig for views.

I guess the trend of adding the companies name is for branding. I guess the sig is not enough.

Sin 08-13-2005 04:25 AM

These people are employed and NOT outsourced.

They are Fresh Grads with IT or sales and marketing. But most of this business is learned from real on the job experience. That is the problem.... most colleges do not teach what is learned here on the boards. It takes time and I guess some people are not cut out for it. I also hire designers all the time based on there portfolio ( not as much as there diploma ) After a week or two I may find out that there style is not exactly what I was looking for. I loose on the time I spent with them and also I pay them for the time they spent working with me no matter how long it is. But you guys never see those designs. This is just part of my growing pains having to find and train the right people.
