I'm not saying that we will never run an affiliate program, but for the time being we would not be able to handle one. When our web division launches next month, it will have over 540,000 trial subscribers. These subscribers were secured through partner companies that I suspect you are all very familiar with. Right now we will have a lot on our hand just trying to convert the over 540,000 30 day free trial subscribers into paying users and it will be quite sometime before we would have need of additional users. When our TV channels begin to launch we suspect that will push many users to our web division as well. I will never say never, but with a site about to launch with more users from day one than the average site has after 5 years, we do not currently see the need for an affiliate program. Nevertheless, I do enjoy this GFY site, I'm beginning to see how it can become addictive. It's 4:30am here in Prague and rather than sleep, I'm still typing on the damn thing.

We spent the money for name recognition! Primarily because we have partnership deals with major affiliate programs, not because we were directly soliciting affiliates. In time you will see that our strategy has paid off. Traditionally Pink TV tries to remain very quite about what it is doing. As you may have noticed by our rarely updated site, it doesn't say much. If your focus is the customer you dont need name recognition with a bunch of webmasters. I also highly doubt your partner deals were based on parties. It doesnt make sense but I wish you all the best.

You're keeping me up! It's 5am here in Prague. But I cant leave your comments un-answered. To set the record straight, we only spent 150k on that party, an amount of money that represents a very miniscule fraction of our companies reserves. I can assure you that we would have never spent even one dollar if we did not feel it would produce 2 more. The party helped tremendously with industry name recognition, and most of all provided a nice backdrop to close deals on. We do not regret the decision. The only thing I regret, was that I was too busy in meetings and never got a chance to have a drink at my own party.

30 employees and most of us (Well at lest me) haven't heard much about Pink TV? You'd think some of those 30 would be on GFY just for the hell of it.

As for a go of it without affiliates, I'm not sure at all that is dumb?? Think Lightspeed could have made a go of it after the build up. Steve changed his mind on it sorta, don't know why??? Kinda looks like they needed the affiliates. As we all know ya need a constant source of new affiliates. Some of today's noobs are tomorrows players.

If you can get the SERPs and buy the traffic.... But I have not seen the presence????????? Good luck to ya all the same.

If you're familiar with IPTV you'll understand that it's a different business model (specifically PinkTV) - although I agree with you regarding affiliates ... there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than Jan has alluded to.

Did some looking around. Looks like an affiliate startup is on the way. With sites set on some of the players like Pussy Cash. Should be intersting. They'll have to be very aggressive to compete at that level. They appear to have some resonable traffic now. Take a look at alexa (I know, it don't mean shit, but...)

I was fortunate enough to sit in on some meetings in Miami and without getting into confidential information I will say only this:

IMHO, PinkTV is "well backed" and Jan has his own way of doing things. I think he's somewhat of a visionary and has a great opportunity to make a huge splash in a bourgeoning new market. The door is not closed on an affiliate model (his words) but that's not the direction he's leaning.

2006 should be a very interesting year for PinkTV
