What would you think about a company who did this?

If a company gave your contact info out to somebody if they inquired about your ref code......Would that be OK with you or.......?

I'm talking about giving out your name, address, and phone number to a random, private party.

Would tha sit well with you?

Wow we would never do that, EVER.

If somebody inquires about an affiliate code, either to do business with that person or out of curiosity, I always contact the person attatched to the affiliate code first. And leave it up to that person to contact the other person if all parties are okay with it.

If it's a processor asking about an affiliate code then thats another story and it goes on a case by case basis depending on the situation.

That is personal information and should never be given out to just anybody. People sign up to affiliate programs expecting a certain level of privacy

It would be illegal here, unless the recorded person gave permission to do so.

More than just respecting their privacy - most reputable programs put a legal blurb in their TOS that states they will not give out any private info - it would definitely be something that someone could get bit on

I refuse to even give out someone's icq number unless they've told me it's okay.

Now if I KNOW both parties extremely well and it could be a mutually beneficial relationship, at BEST I'd give them an email that they could contact them through.

I may also go the extra mile and phone someone and see if it's OKAY to pass out that information, but never would I hand out someones personal contact information to someone without prior consent from that party.

Python gave out a spammers name, address, and CELL phone number to the journalist from a TV 'news' show. This was in Canada's jurisdiction and aired only a few days ago

was it right ?? heck if I know but the spammer was not following their TOS... sooooo, you decide

Is this to do with the investigative report on TV?
I do think it should be allowed if the person is breaking laws but only under subpaoena by authorized law enforcement officials.

I think that it's crazy that they gave out that guys info. It's not like they gave it out because they were ordered to by a court. They gave it out to a reporter who ASKED them for the info. They guy may very well have been violating there TOS, but come on... giving out his info like that was just wrong.

Although I fully agree with your statement......I know that report twisted some facts and made certain people out to be things that they are not. So....I will be giving Python the benefit of the doubt in this case. Perhaps they did contact the guy and ask first. God knows the media doesn't know how to be subjective and tell the entire truth with stories like this.

As far as the story goes...At the end of the day, they found the spammer but they never seemed to care how the spammer actually got the specific person's email in the first place.

I know of a domain registrar (popular with this industry) that was offered a high 5 digit sum at a Vegas convention - to turn over a list of 'porn' domains so the buyer could add them into their database for one of the most popular website blocking software suites available at the time.

The domain registrar flat out told them NO
After the sw guys walked away I asked him why he refused since it was only the domain names and not the owner details.
He said simply, "My customers privacy comes above everything else."

I follow the same rule, I sign (and have my customers sign) an NDA. I'm legally bound to keeping their information PRIVATE.

Its just good business imho

Especially in this industry, I think that privacy is important. If someone wants to give out their information, they will. If not, they would much rather stay anonymous for any number of reasons.

I think that you'd loose a lot of respect if you gave out customer information in any industry. However, in Adult, most people (especially the people who haven't been around long) would much rather deal with a company they could trust and respect.

I spoke with Aly and Judson right after the show after watching it and I know the owners and crew at Python personally and stand behind them on this one. Python I feel did nothing against their policies and Im sure that Rich and Dave spent a long time with lawyers etc. and the team before all this took place. It was a "damned if you do, damned if you dont" situation - and Python is going to side with not being associated with those who spam... as does most programs who have in their policy.

I do wonder if it ever would have made it to TV is they refused to send the information
