i think it depends on your age and your amount of experience in dating.. like if you've been through 3 or so long term relationships and can differentiate between love and lust, and you know what kind of person you would be compatible with then go ahead and make the move.

but never make the move to marriage because you feel obligated, or feel rushed to do it..

depends on how old you are
if you're 20 I'd suggest 5 years
if you're 50, 1 year can be a lot ;)

Dated for 4 yrs got engaged for 1 year and broke it off (thank god)

Have a friend that moved in with a girl after 1 month, engaged after 3 months, just got married this past May 05. They are pregnant now too They seem to be happy.

Have another friend that moved in with a girl and her 3 yr old kid, got engaged after 6 months, married 5 months later (she had the wedding planned 2 days after they got engaged ) They had a kid together 6 months afterwards... and things just get worse...he's in hell!!!

Bottom Line:

It's anybodys game! There is no method to the madness of relationships.

After 25, I say 2 years of dating and one year of being engaged. Anything longer than that is a waste of time.

6 months - and we've been married 20 years. It's more important to be best friends than sex partners.

Either you know or you don't. If you have to ask for advice on how long you should wait you're not ready or she's not right. Most people know right away, even if it is the lust talking. Think of your biggest fight to date, amplify that by a factor of 3 and ask yourself if you're ready for that on a regular basis.

Remember, no matter how long you're dating you're still in the "Test Drive" phase. Once you take the car off of the lot. It loses half of it's value.

Buy the car under market value and fix it up and you'll have it around a long time.

its been 6 yrs with me & the boyfriend, up till this year, i kept tellin him i didnt wanna get married. some people never get married and are comfy with just being boy/girlfriends. just look at Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russel. They've been together for like 20 yrs & have kids, but they're not married.

korean women are raised to be totaly respectful of thier man and they value family above all else. Funny thing about them though, is they look young forever then one day you wake up and they look old as shit. Never seems to be an in-between with them.

I think it depends on age and where you're at in your life.

My dad got married last year. They became engaged after knowing each other for just a couple months, probably 4. I thought he was crazy, but after thinking about it he is 43 and would like to have another kid. Maybe it isn't so crazy after all.

I have a friend that has been dating someone for about 4 months. They're already making life plans. Talking about marriage, kids, etc. I think she's crazy. Someone my age should probably have at least 2 years of knowing the other person. Hell just over the past 2 years I see a lot of changes in myself, I'm sure other people see even more. People my age are still learning, growing, etc.

For your age, 1 year I think could be perfectly fine if everything else seems to match up. You probably shouldn't rush into the actual marriage, but I think 12-15 months is enough to warrant a proposal.

Good luck dude.

I've been with my guy for 8 years (met him just after my 20th birthday) and we had plans to marry in 3+ years. But we recently (last week) decided to up our wedding date to next summer. My guy said that he was always ready to get married to me, but he was suddenly "really ready" after we experienced a minor situation and came together to talk.

You're ready to commit when being married is about sharing your daily lives with each other instead of about telling stories of your wedding day.

I just met my new girl a few months ago. We're moving in together in 3 weeks and getting married July 29th 2006. When you know she's the one, you just know. I've never felt this way about a girl in my entire life and the feeling is mutual. You just know.

I say a MINIMUM of 2 years, and living together for at least one of them. You never really get to know somebody until you've lived with them for several months. It works the same with friends (as roommates) that you've known for years. You move in together and you learn a whole new person.

I've known people who date for only a few months before they get engaged, and most of them never make it to the wedding. And those that do, rarely make it past about 2 years of marriage. It happens, but it's rare.

My husband and I were married within 6 months of meeting each other. 4 and half years later we are still going strong. Before I met him I dated the same guy for 5 years and we never even considered marriage. Funny how things work sometimes.

take into consideration the girls situation as well. how old is she, how many relationships has she had, ect. personally i wouldn't marry someone until i lived with them for at least 3 years. you never know what a person can really be like.
