I have 2 VCRs in my setup. One has just the outputs hooked into one of my DVD recorder's inputs for transferring tapes over to DVD and the other has the inputs from the DVD out and satellite into it, it's used to record and switch between components and gives me a single audio out that goes into my surround system.
I have a treasured movie on VHS that will never be released again in it's original form because of legalities (music rights). I put it in the dubbing VCR and made a very nice backup on DVD. The tape ejected but was still in that VCR. We've been having thunderstorms every day for about a week so a power flicker caused everything to reset. When turning everything back on I discovered that the batteries in the universal remote I use to control the VCR that serves as an output had conked and after replacing them discovered it had lost it's codes. The VCR doesn't have a TV/VCR button on it, so I pulled the tape out of the other one and stuck it in that one, intending for "Play" to kick the signal back in... It kicked in, then the VCR suddenly shut down. I discovered that it had eaten and totally trashed the tape! I am so stoked that the last time the tape was played was the time I decided to do it's long delayed dubbing to DVD. Needless to say, I am now about to do a backup of that DVD ![]()

Talk about being lucky!... Now go and get a GOOD VHS cleaner or have the unit serviced so it doesn't eat any more tapes...
