Chilli or Curry?

Which is your weapon of choice? I suspect this might be a North America vs the rest of the world thing but they are both the same idea with different ingredients. I just made a mighty nice veggie chilli.

I really like chili better than curry, and I like cooking with chile more than curry.

I love curry. I'd have Indian now if I wasn't already going for some BBQ.

I'm lucky enough to have a wife who knows how to make both very very well (in fact, we had bar-b-ques tandoori chicken skewers last night... mmm!)

I'd have to opt for the curry, but there's something very comforting about having a hot bowl of chilli on a cold winter's night. Downside being that you can't really open the windows to take care of the result of having a bowl of chilli on a cold winter's night.

Ya just need a lil alpha-galactosidase enzyme.

Sarah are you talking actual chili like in chili con carne or chiles?

I've had curry over here, but nothing quite beats a curry from England.. over here I'd say chili is better, but my preference would be for curry the way they make it back home in the UK (as odd as that may sound since curries are Indian LOL)

The Beano helps, but doesn't completely resolve the problem. It's been thought of though.

Believe me, it's been thought of.

I am not quite sure I understand the concept of curry as the west does but I sure do miss Indian cooking like they do at Indian festival or a wedding. All the tastes and foods from Indian rotis, nans, to vegetables and sweets. yum.

We have some great Indian restaurants here in the UK... nothing beats a hot curry with some freshly cooked nan bread... damn!

It's actually part of British culture as much as fish & chips.

I enjoy both, but I eat curries more often because they come in more varieties (national and ingredients) and there's more choice as to what you can eat with them. And of course chilli is an ingredient of many curries, so if you are a chilli fan, just ask for extra...

BTW sarah if you like vegetarian curries, get out to the Ealing Road in Wembley sometime. There are a half-a-dozen vegetarian restaurants down there serving the local Indian population (and in the stores nearby you will find vegetables and fruits you may never have seen before). "Jashan" in particular has wonderful food.

I've done Brick Lane twice but it is pretty far from me and to be honest the guys trying to lure you in drove me nuts. The food was good though.

I like both but I suppose curry has the edge...

but then it's not really a fair question. Curry comes in a huge amount of variations whereas chilli has very little variation.

That said - there's more North Americans picked curry than I'd have expected given how common chilli is there and how hard it can be to get a good curry.

What is curry?

My dad makes really good chili. I like it with a lot of beef and beans, not too spicy, very mild.

You answered your own question. Chilli is common here and it's hard to find a good curry, so when you do find one it leaves an impression.

I'm lucky enough to be married to a woman who grew up in a house next to immigrants from the Goa area of india. Her mother and the matriarch of the neighbor household were good friends, and in the process she learned a lot of the double super duper secret curry creation techniques. My tongue has never been happier.
