Chilli or Curry?

Which is your weapon of choice? I suspect this might be a North America vs the rest of the world thing but they are both the same idea with different ingredients. I just made a mighty nice veggie chilli.

After Shock Media 08-04-2005 11:32 AM

I really like chili better than curry, and I like cooking with chile more than curry.

Tango 08-04-2005 11:33 AM

curry :thumbsup

VanessaG 08-04-2005 11:43 AM

My husband makes the best curry! :thumbsup

candyflip 08-04-2005 11:44 AM

I love curry. I'd have Indian now if I wasn't already going for some BBQ.

DateDoc 08-04-2005 11:45 AM

curry and chips :)

SGS 08-04-2005 11:46 AM

Curry by far.

simpleMe 08-04-2005 11:46 AM

both are good .. i prefer curry :winkwink:

rickholio 08-04-2005 11:48 AM

I'm lucky enough to have a wife who knows how to make both very very well (in fact, we had bar-b-ques tandoori chicken skewers last night... mmm!)

I'd have to opt for the curry, but there's something very comforting about having a hot bowl of chilli on a cold winter's night. Downside being that you can't really open the windows to take care of the result of having a bowl of chilli on a cold winter's night. :winkwink:

Dalai lama 08-04-2005 11:48 AM

I take both :)

flirty 08-04-2005 11:49 AM

chilli for me.............

Ya just need a lil alpha-galactosidase enzyme.

Sarah are you talking actual chili like in chili con carne or chiles?

RuthB 08-04-2005 11:53 AM

I've had curry over here, but nothing quite beats a curry from England.. over here I'd say chili is better, but my preference would be for curry the way they make it back home in the UK (as odd as that may sound since curries are Indian LOL)

The Beano helps, but doesn't completely resolve the problem. It's been thought of though.

Believe me, it's been thought of. :disgust

LittleSassy 08-04-2005 12:07 PM

chili here too....dont like curry that much...

Project-Shadow 08-04-2005 12:14 PM

Chilli. Can't stand curry :(

Jayde 08-04-2005 12:17 PM

I am not quite sure I understand the concept of curry as the west does but I sure do miss Indian cooking like they do at Indian festival or a wedding. All the tastes and foods from Indian rotis, nans, to vegetables and sweets. yum.

Metalsound 08-04-2005 12:25 PM

Curry for me

amandaspost 08-04-2005 12:37 PM

chili here

Sosa 08-04-2005 12:38 PM

chili for sure

blazin 08-04-2005 12:38 PM

We have some great Indian restaurants here in the UK... nothing beats a hot curry with some freshly cooked nan bread... damn!

It's actually part of British culture as much as fish & chips.

gangbangjoe 08-04-2005 12:41 PM

no question about that

curry

Downtime 08-04-2005 12:42 PM

chili all the way

SGS 08-04-2005 12:49 PM

Lobster Vindaloo
Basmati Rice
Mixed Jambo
Bhindi Bhaji
Nan Bread
Poppadoms
Assorted Pickle Tray

mortenb 08-04-2005 12:56 PM

chili here

jayeff 08-04-2005 12:57 PM

I enjoy both, but I eat curries more often because they come in more varieties (national and ingredients) and there's more choice as to what you can eat with them. And of course chilli is an ingredient of many curries, so if you are a chilli fan, just ask for extra...

BTW sarah if you like vegetarian curries, get out to the Ealing Road in Wembley sometime. There are a half-a-dozen vegetarian restaurants down there serving the local Indian population (and in the stores nearby you will find vegetables and fruits you may never have seen before). "Jashan" in particular has wonderful food.

I've done Brick Lane twice but it is pretty far from me and to be honest the guys trying to lure you in drove me nuts. The food was good though.

Sama 08-04-2005 02:49 PM

I like both but my top choice is chili.

demented 08-04-2005 02:54 PM

My wife is making Chili as I type this :winkwink: Cincinnati style...

Redrob 08-04-2005 03:00 PM

It can go either way.... I love both when made right.........SPICY!!

VeriSexy 08-04-2005 03:27 PM

Curry beef rocks :thumbsup

Tipsy 08-04-2005 04:18 PM

I like both but I suppose curry has the edge...

but then it's not really a fair question. Curry comes in a huge amount of variations whereas chilli has very little variation.

That said - there's more North Americans picked curry than I'd have expected given how common chilli is there and how hard it can be to get a good curry.

BlueDesignStudios 08-04-2005 04:23 PM

i love both :)

napoleon 08-04-2005 04:27 PM

chili... :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

tristan_D 08-04-2005 04:59 PM

chilli or curry? hhhmmm... its kinda hard to choose for me.

Sly 08-04-2005 05:07 PM

What is curry?

My dad makes really good chili. I like it with a lot of beef and beans, not too spicy, very mild.

Spunky 08-04-2005 05:08 PM

I kinda like a mild curry..chilli is nice but still too hot for me

You answered your own question. Chilli is common here and it's hard to find a good curry, so when you do find one it leaves an impression. :winkwink:

I'm lucky enough to be married to a woman who grew up in a house next to immigrants from the Goa area of india. Her mother and the matriarch of the neighbor household were good friends, and in the process she learned a lot of the double super duper secret curry creation techniques. My tongue has never been happier. :thumbsup

PixeLs 08-04-2005 05:39 PM

Curry fights cancer. I suggest we should go for it.. ;)

Vitasoy 08-04-2005 05:40 PM

I like both, but I prefer curry

reed_4 08-04-2005 08:47 PM

Green curry over anything else in the world, chili or whatever. Nothing better in my opinion.

Easton 08-04-2005 11:04 PM
