All comes down to $$$ Soccer all u need is 1 ball for 22 people, and a open field and 4 shirts, boots, cans or whatever to act as goal posts.... and any size of playing area....

Plus its been around soooo much longer than basketball, football, hockey, baseball....

It's the # one sport because it's one of only a few sports played buy the majority of other countries besides the USA!

Think about it...why does the US suck at World Cup? Cuz not many folks play soccer here, therefore, other countries have an advantage over us!

Why is it the US does so well in Basketball at the Olympics?
Because not many other countries play basketball and therefore we have the upper hand...plus the fact that the NBA is the place to play if you wanna play with the best there is, just like the MLB, NHL, PGA Tour...and we take players from our best leagues and use them to field our teams!

No, if you were to bring soccer into the equation and take away the many choices we have for sports...who knows..maybe the US would be better at soocer...but for now...I'll agree..it's the #1 sport out side of the US for it's sheer acceptance by other countries!

you cant drink Beer and play soccer but you can when you play Golf , so there for golf is best :) but out of all the ball sports ,soccor and basketball seem the most skilled.

I like drinking beer too when playing golf..but only if I'm having a shit day...as for 'skilled' sports...I'm gonna have to disagree..

While it may be pretty easy for a goalie to kick a soccer ball 50+ yards to you and you then jump up and use your head to pass it to another team member, let's look at a few other sports and compare the 'hand/eye' needed to be good:

1. Baseball.
Pitcher stands roughly 60 ft from you and can throw this round object, roughly 3 inches in diameter at you at speeds over 85 miles an hour. To make things worse, the ball does't alwasy come at you straight on...no...they'll throw a curve ball which breaks 2-4 ft from either left to right....or right to left'...or react to a 'knuckleball' that 'appears' to be coming at you at roughly 'chest high' but then drops to your feet at the last second! and you have to make contact with this ball using a wooden object that is just barely wider in size then the object you're trying to hit!...

2. Golf (Withstand the force to laugh until I'm done please!)
A: While the white ball maybe a non moving object, the swing that is needed to send this ball a great distance, is not really a 'natura' swing..
B: Try to pull this shot off...You've left your tee shot 6 feet behind a tree that is blocking a straight shot to the green/flag! Your only option is to hit the ball 8 feet left or right...AROUND the tree and then bring it back on course and get it to stop 3-8 feet from the hole...oh..and by the way...you're currently 180 yards away....

There are many famous athletes from OTHER sports that have attempted to play golf..but they still can't compete w/those who do it every day!...

Listen, nobody is debating soccer's popularity overseas. You would have to live in a cave to not see that.
