What to do about deadbeat construction guys

i got my air installed last year by a friend of a friend who worked for a heating and cooling place and did it on the side. he gave me a recipt stating a 5 year parts and labor warrenty and it broke down this year, ive called him several times and hes ignored me. i told my friend to get ahold of him and get him to fix it and they did and he said he would come fix it just call him but he keeps blowing me off.

whats the best way to handle this considering i have the warrenty written by him? should i have someone else come fix it and then whatever it costs take him to court for that or do i need to file a complaint somewhere?

get a friend who is interested in getting air conditioning.. get him to call the guy and order one.. when he comes and after is done installing it, walk out from one of the rooms and tell him hes not getting paid since he didn't fix yours.. then the cost of the repairs can be paid for by your friend so basically he gets an air conditioner for half price

that will probably cause a fight though, so make sure you have a katana or some sort of rocket launcher ready hehe

best leverage is (if he is a state licensed contractor or holds a county license) to file a complaint against his license. this will get his attention if he is licensed.

why would the contractor honor a warrenty when your buddy did the work on the side?

Or am i missing something ?

Thats what I would do. Im sure that the side job deal is not approved of by his employer. Call him and threaten to call the company he works for. You are sure to get results.

Call up his supervisor/boss and tell them their warranty is valid and they need to come out to fix it. If they're still strongarming you, Better Business Bureau. If that still doesn't work, small claims.

I would tell him you're going to try this first. If that doesn't get his attention, do it.

And if that brings no results, it's either small claims if you feel that little personally-written warranty is actually enforceable, or you eat this one, suck it up, and take your A/C unit to a shop to get it fixed.

Funny, I read the thread and read this part:

Quote:
recipt stating a 5 year parts and labor warrenty
A receipt was issued, a warranty was issued. They should be held liable for the service.
