I'm glad Ron realizes this is a trade show and not his daughters wedding. The rest of you people need to lighten up. You don't like it, don't go. How many of you still need shows to do business? If you've been around more than a couple of years and you have to have them, you're doing something wrong.

SinisterStudios 08-02-2005 07:48 AM

This has to be the worst thing AVN has done so far, tell me how the hell im going to be able to be at 2 shows at once???? This sucks big time and i think its time for Lens or one of the other smaller show producers to step up and start a new show for the industry by the industry not these money hungry AVN fuckers. Im mad as hell since now my staff will have to be running back and forth between both shows. AVN you better wake up or you will lose everything your mag has worked for, its just a matter of time before Klixx becomes the dominant online adult mag and no one advertises in yours anymore.

Wake up AVN we run this industry NOT YOU!!!

fris 08-02-2005 07:54 AM

what will make us all happy, if you get all the porn producers and all the porn stars in 1 room, and invite all the webmasters over at avn, and have them say thank you for all the traffic we send in making them money over the years, cause without us, they would be 0.

that would be gold.

just a thank you.

I always attend both shows and I often share booth space at one show or both as part of my distributors booth. Combining these shows means less time for me to do business and network, less time have meetings and less time to enjoy my time in Vegas.

I agree with Jim.

Really stupid idea- I don't even believe this is the true reason.

Why would they not want 2 separate shows, more hotel room revenue, more booths, etc?

Hahaha that'd be the only way I'd show up with all those other peeps is to check out the new cars.

lesbodojo 08-02-2005 09:59 AM

It looks like I'll be going to both again this year. Thanks, Aly! xoxo

Cyndalie 08-02-2005 10:18 AM

I quit attending the Vegas shows years ago after consecutive years of no ROI when compared to Phoenix Forum, WA's, and regional gatherings, hell even the summer internext performs much better than the Vegas shows - bad time of year and too many distractions to keep webmasters together and networking in areas where you can actually hear one another. So this doesn't really affect me either way, gave up on this one long ago.

Penthouse Tony 08-02-2005 10:20 AM

How will we all get traffic to our respective sites when the surfers find out what we all are really like? :upsidedow

Mr Pheer 08-02-2005 10:23 AM

Its not worth the drive across town to attend.

Yes, as I've said before... some genius always plans Internext during the same dates as the CES show, then people wonder why hotels are filled and rooms are so expensive.

magicmike 08-02-2005 10:28 AM

I agree completely that CES is the biggest problem, do you people not remember the last day / the day after previous internexts in vegas the mobs of people there for CES, how hard it is to get a cab / limo or anything else for that matter.

My own personal thoughts? ... I'm already having anxiety about the crowds, and it's still 5 months away!

AEE is scheduled around CES because a huge number of AEE badges are sold to CES attendees. To move it would hurt the show for the exhibitors. Now... if AEE exhibitors and business attendees do bring more business to Internext exhibitors (which is the theory) then Internext will most likely stay running at the same time as AEE. So, (in theory,) we're stuck with this for a while.

Again... my personal, objective response...? PLEASE BRING VALIUM!

Rhino22 08-02-2005 10:35 AM

You gotta wonder why every AVN thread turns into a drama thread.

Eric 08-02-2005 11:22 AM

As someone who for the past two years worked both shows.

I can tell you that this is a blessing in disguise!!!

When I go to these shows most of the time I have a list of people that I want to meet and set up to meet those people before I go whether it be for a lunch, at a party at night, or even at a booth. Last year with the two halls across town from each other I spent half my day in Cabs going back and forth getting to meeting and booth set up on opposite ends of town.

As far as the surfers running around Internext. I highly doubt you are going to get that many surfers who are going to shell out 150 bucks to walk around Internext when they can spend 40 and go see all the pornstars and get free DVDs and shit.

One other reason I am happy about this is Booth set up. With the 1st of the year getting closer and closer to the beginning of Internext it was getting to the point that it was going to be impossible to do anything but be in Vegas for the New Year.

So I for one am happy that this is going to work out this way. Less time in Vegas for me. 9 days to start off the year put me in a bad mood for months!

So for all of you who are quick to put AVN down for this decision. I think if you take a little time and prepare well for this new format you will see that it will work out to your benefit. Just be prepare beforehand and you will walk away happy!

Good Job Aly

Both personal and business thoughts.

How does CES help AEE?

CES attendees pay for badges to attend AEE.

thank you for the explanation Aly!!
See you in Florida

Sheri Santiago 08-02-2005 01:07 PM

The five of us will not be attending this clusterfuck.

See you all at the Phoenix Forum. :)

For those few companies who have previously exhibited at both shows (and now face a logistical challenge) I encourage you to pick one show over the other for your exhibit, if you can. This isn?t about forcing people to rent and staff two booths. It will be challenging? I agree.
That will really suck for those "few". I wonder if anyone has a count on how many there are that exhibit at both shows?

woj 08-02-2005 01:47 PM

100....,.,...

I personally like it when they are so close together :thumbsup

seeric 08-02-2005 02:16 PM

that means the entertainment venues are going to be way overpriced and will go to the highest bidders. CES AEE and INTERNEXT. going to be crazy for people planning parties. holy shit that is gonna be a nightmare. im not for or against them being held together. i will be going to both probably anyhow.

wow.

:thumbsup, think about it guys.

What the hell do we have to show on our floors, a bunch of strippers dancing to a DJ, some gay guys in speedo's, Internet models signing autographs, or a bunch of merchant bank guys in suits trying to sell their services. All of the above for $150

Compare that to a hall full of every porn star in the business all for $40, why the hell would they wonder over to us?

So now with the surfers and free loaders out of the way. I do see homegrowns view because to them it is 2 different shows and the overlap will be frustrating as hell for businesses that buy booths for both show. That AVN will have to address because these guys do it for their business and this new line up will make it tough to manage for them.

As for the parties, I would rather go to a AEE party and see hundreds of pornstars then hang out with my Internet friends because I can really see them anytime and don't need Internext to hang out with them. A room full of 200 porn stars, now that sounds like fun.

NaughtyRob 08-10-2005 10:14 AM

Just plain stupid.

Giorgio_Xo 08-10-2005 10:17 AM

I will proactively boycott both events. While I have absolutely nothing against Aly, AVN is attitude reminds me of Microsoft. Florida was a major dissappointment and waste of money (save for the wonderful hospitality offered by Camz.com, Netbilling.com, Sammy & Brett, etc.). The shows are getting much smaller, much more expensive, much less productive, etc. AVN wants to subject ourselves to business chaos - no thanks. AVN's solution to saving its declining convention business is to charge more for everything and impose monopolistic practises.

NaughtyRob 08-10-2005 10:19 AM

In case AVN has not figured this out yet.... MOST webmasters and internet people do not even go to the AVN show. InterNext is for our business, now we need to fight through the crowds just to get there. Dumb move.

Za Ha 08-10-2005 10:25 AM

What a stupid idea.

I agree. Why bother driving down Flamingo Ave. to get assraped by a magazine that sells itself to the highest advertiser.

Trixie Racer 08-10-2005 10:34 AM

Internext and AVN running at the same time is extremely inconvenient. Basically, it forces many of us to make a choice. I've attended the past 3 AVNs and the past two Vegas Internexts. Internext is much more important to me than AVN, so since I'm forced to choose, I choose Internext. I bet AVN will lose a lot of money because of this bad decision. :disgust

kristin 08-10-2005 10:47 AM

I think this would be a better idea and keep the two shows together...

Have them together, fine and dandy, but do it in a smarter way. Have business the first 3 days of the week so booths can be aimed at the business side of the industry. Then turn it around for the last part of the week and have it aimed at surfers/customers.

Then a company can take down their graphics and replace them with graphics that focus on one of their sites for the consumers. This would in turn serve both sides and a company wouldn't have to choose between which show they want to do a booth at.

I'm curious to see how it goes down. I personally like to see surfers at the bars because they think we're gods and buy drinks for us.

No AJ from the backstreet boys this year I'm going ot assume :(

In all honesty friends, none of us will know until we've lived through it.

CherryLipsRosa 08-10-2005 12:09 PM

At first I did not see the harm in combining both shows but after reading all the constructive comments I really think that this is a bad idea.

While I don't think having the shows run simultaneously is a great idea I think the above is a little harsh.

There are plenty of content providers to be found at internext, an secondly, I feel if you're in adult, you're in adult. I don't see how anyone of us could take the moral high road over another aspect in the biz. :2 cents:

I'm glad you had a good time in the suite... it would be a loss to not have you at the poker tables next time around. :(

I wonder what the room rates in Vegas will be during this time?
