Was high school the best 4 years of your life?

When I was younger my dad always told me that if high school was the best time period in a persons life, they must have a pretty pathetic life. I tend to agree.

I've almost wiped high school from my memory. I hated high school and the majority of my fellow students drove me nuts. Wherever I go back to visit family one of my old friends always wants to get together and "hang out", I hate it though I always feel compelled. We have absolutely nothing in common except the same taste in music. He never graduated high school. He works a minimum wage job at a 7/11 type joint. He lives with his brother in a trailer. Has absolutely no desire to better his life.

What exactly do I talk about with someone like this? I have a hard enough time talking to people who I DO have similar interests with.

I had a good time but thankfully since my memory is bad, I always think the most recent 4 years of my life (with the exception of this one) are always the best

I just got my transcripts from HS since I'm going back to college - the last semester of my senior year I was present 34 days and absent 26. And I probably left early those 34 too, lol!

What are you going back to school for? I've thought about taking a couple classes to cure my boredom.

I went to an all boys catholic high school filled with predominatly rich snobby jocks.

I wasn't rich nor was I a jock. Needless to say I disliked my High School and for the most part had absolutely NO friends that went to the same school. My actual school was just a place to learn for me.

Although my senior year of HS and the next few years of college were absolutely fun as hell. I had plenty of friends from surrounding schools.

I'm still best friends and keep in touch with at least 3 people from back then.

But I do understand what u mean about out growing friends. One of my best friends from when I was a little kid - high school still keeps in touch now and again. He's a recovered acoholic drug addict who still lives with his parents at 31 with no future or ambitions. When I do see him we still laugh and have a great time re-living memories. But that is all that's left....memories.

The friends from back then I do keep in touch are the ones I have the most in common with have done something with there lives.

Just about every doctor and lawyer in town had kids my age so I went to school with a bunch of stuck up snobs and the teachers generally played favorites with them. If it weren't for a small group of friends in ROTC I wouldn't have any fond memories of high school. I have never and will never go to a reunion.

I can say that my HS years were average if I really look from objective point of view into past.

My ten year reunion last year was surprisingly enjoyable, but high school was the bane of my young life. If it was just learning interesting stuff I would have been perfectly happy. But the kids... kids can be very cruel. I really don't have much to say to any of them. I'm still friends with some of the friends from back then, but most have drifted away. No big loss.

During highsvhool teaschers always told me life would only get worse.. THIS is the time of my life and i will always recall that period in my further life as "careless" and "fun". I hated school and i figured life would only get worse.. hehe.

For the sheep school is adult life with less responsibilities.. if youre not a sheep school ius a great example of what you should avoid in life.

edit : I should have worked on me gramer thuogh..

I graduated from HS in 1979 and still see my friends frequently. We had dinner together just about a week ago and a slumber party last month. We're planning a trip to NC in Sept and one to NY in Dec. We have a "call" list where if there's a problem you just need to reach one person and they will handle getting in touch with everyone else. I guess I was lucky to have a lot in common with my HS peers

High school was ok, but I think the best years of my life were right after I graduated and moved out on my own...

I have 1-2 good friends who I kept from high school, the rest I haven't spoken to in 2-3 years.

HS sucked, pure crap.. The people sucked.. Very rich school. It was far from my best years. I had a few hard years to follow but it was a hard life, not pure HS crap. The last few years have been the best years of my life; each year keeps getting more enjoyable now.

HS boiled down to a learning style that my brain didn't work well with. I didn't struggle, I just hated it, bored, didn't like BS kid crap. I honestly knew life on my own would be better, 2 weeks after graduation I moved out of my parents. I left that town and never looked back.

When I visit my parents I see the amount of people that stayed around, working dead end jobs, married, 6 kids, in a trailer. I didn?t go to my 10-year reunion and I didn?t stay friends with anyone.

If he was your "friend", what difference does it make that he works a shit job? Neither one of y'all had real jobs back in high school. If he's happy with working at 7/11 and living in a trailer, what's it to you? It isn't like you're about to marry him

I quit semester 1 grade 11. I couldn't handle my peers. I had nothing in common and couldn't hold a conversation. I just found what they found intriguing to be completely retarded.

You're right. We could talk about how summer has really improved Cherry Coke Slushie sales.

Peaches, you sound like my mom. She has a gossip circle. In fact, right now my little brother is playing with and friends with my moms friends kids.

You have the same outlook as my ex girlfriend. She grew up poor in the inner city and usually dates black thug guys. She thinks there is nothing wrong with living in the ghetto and it's ok not wanting to better yourself and move out to a better neighborhood. She is also a stripper going no where with her life.

This is America and everyone has the right to live how they like. Sure that guy has every right in the world to work a dead end job and live in a trailer. Nothing illegal about that.

People are more than welcome to live in poor ghetto neighborhoods with high crime.

Homeless people are more than welcome to live on our streets rather than getting a real job.

But....

Just like Donald Trump says... "surround yourself with successful people and you're more likely to be successful".

Working a dead end job living in a trailer isn't the type of life I consider successfull.

Again..this is America and if the person is perfectly happy then more power too him.

I personally would rather live next to a doctore/lawyer and get stocks tips from my neighbor, rather than live in a trailer and have my neighbors all be underachievers.

Since this is a looking back on high school thread.....
1. The friends that partied the hardest and were the biggest fuck ups back then are STILL doing nothing with there lives. Dead end jobs, still doing drugs etc..
2. The friends from back then that I'm STILL friends with...they are the ones that partied BUT still were responsible and had there shit together. They went on to college, great work careers etc...

I stayed friends with the ones that were more responsible and guess what...I stayed out of trouble and eventually opened up several business leading to where I'm at now.

If the friends I would have stayed around would have been the other half that continued doing drugs and going nowhere.... then I probably wouldn't be doing this today and just as unsuccessful as they are.

Just my outlook on life..

He works a dead end job, has done absolutely nothing with his life and doesn't plan on doing anything, smokes and watches TV all day, etc, etc, etc. If he's happy with that, fine, good for him. Those are not my interests, therefore we have nothing to talk about.

My high school life was really bad! I was what you called not very cool. I was also very quiet and just blended in at best. I think that's why I am doing what I am doing now I don't blend in at all. It took me till I was 20 to really get going and well now I am going strong. I never thought life could be this great. I am having fun and making more money then I ever thought was possible. Melissa

You wrote all that without reading in MY statement that "It's not like you're going to marry him"...

Therefore, having sexual and emotional relationships with failures is NOT the same thing as shooting the shit with an old high school buddy..

I hope I never get to the point to where I can't even talk to somebody because of "what they do"...What made Ceasar a great leader is that he was able to live amongst the elite and STILL relate to the common soldier...Once you lose your touch with the masses, you're done.

I could shoot the shit with the Queen of England as well as a common crackhead. It means nothing to me.

Meloman just summed up my philosophy as well.

Two-three years ago I worked all the time. ALL the time. My (current) friends always wanted to know why. They didn't understand it. I told them that I wanted to get ahead in life, I wanted to get to the point where I didn't have to worry about paying next months bills, they were already handled.

Now, 3 years later, I'm doing much better. Next months bills are covered. Unexpected expenses don't upset me. I don't have to call my parents asking for a loan. I buy things when I want them or deem them a reasonable expense, I don't have to "save up". And now those same friends that were asking me why I worked so often have been distancing themselves from me due to jealousy. They see something new in my house and say "must be nice to be able to throw money around like that", which to me is actually insulting, but whatever.

I look at middle aged working the check-out line at the grocery store and shake my head because I just don't understand it. I don't understand the lack of desire for a better life. I don't understand what its like not to be willing to sacrifice for today to get a better tomorrow. But thats just me, if other people choose to live their life that way, I really don't care. Its their choice.

And enough ranting for now... :-)

You are blessed with something I am not. The gift of gab. :-)

Like I mentioned earlier, I have a hard enough time talking to people I DO have something in common with.

Ok good point. My old buddy I mentioned above (31 year old ex-alocoloic etc.) was just visiting the area a few weeks ago. I hung out with him a few times and we had a blast. It was fun to shoot the shit.

But I'm a very socialble person that can have a conversation with anyone as well.

Doesn't mean I respect the persons life decisions and will normally go out of my way to hang out with him on an ongoing basis.

I was an exchange student in 11th grade(Orange, CA).
It was interesting to see how the school system worked, and how the high school is one big popularity contest.....LOL

it was the best in terms of being young. I had a lot of friends and we go out often. But looking back I did some things that I now find very childish and stupid. Nonetheless it was fun.

Do any of them know what you do now? What was your highschool reunion like? Who became the most successful?
