If this bill was passed....print and video adult materials would carry a distinct advantage over online adult materials.

Do any of you wonder if perhaps the print and video companies are supporting this bill to boost their own biz? Or do you think there is solidarity enough that they are in opposition of any sort of singling out of adult entertainment because it's a slippery slope once things start getting taxed and set apart?

Just something that occurred to me today.

Anyone who is making *real* money will just move off shore the same as they would in any other business.

I tend to agree... money has no patriotism.

It'll cast a serious chill over the little guys though. Once again, much like with the 2257 regs, it'll be the mom-and-pop setups within the US that get bent over.

Which, of course, means huge opportunity for the big money and fabulous prizes for mom-and-pop setups OUTSIDE of the US.

I've always maintained that the Bush administration policies, although abhorrent, have paid very nice dividends for Canada. #1 economy in the G8 for, what, 4 years running now? Balanced budgets, debt being paid down, windsor producing more cars than detroit, candy manufacturers heading north to flee insanely inflated sugar prices, and now the wholesale export of the porn industry by degrees. It's a golden age!

Shame about that exchange rate, though.

Even if you move offshore, you still have to pay taxes in the US if you make over $80k/year. I don't know how it would work for moving a business etc. but it would be tax invasion as an individual if you keep your citizenship.

I think... I'm not 100% sure about this though.

Anyway back to the original question... no I don't think offline adult is pushing this. A lot of them have migrated and incorporated their offline businesses onto the internet.

This 25% move is pure greed on the government's behalf (the left), being egged on by the religious right. The same way they tax tobacco, alcohol, gambling etc. They want money from every angle. Soon there will be a tax on paying taxes.

That?s really not how tax works. For instance the EU and the US has a transatlantic tax treaty where you can effectively chose where you pay your tax. Moving to a country to work does not = tax evasion so long as you do pay tax.

For the most part I agree. But part of me wonders if they are being passive because the are looking at an angle that benefits their publication and video sales.

It's unbelievable to me that the general public would go for paying a 25% tax. I mean, for all these people ACT like they don't want adult around, I know my hits are mostly from the USA, and therefore I think it's safe to say most of my sales are, as well. Unless just a small percentage of Americans are buying the majority of net porn....well, SOMEONE is a willing consumer of this smut, lol.

I placed a newsflash on the site I'm slapping together that just educated people of this proposal...maybe if the public knows, they will object...maybe not. But like I tell my kids...you can always ask..even if the answer is no, you are no worse off than if you hadn't asked at all.

Most people around here that say they would move offshore are not talking about moving themselves. They are talking about thinking they can still sit in the US and run a business hosted offshore to ignore US laws. If you think that works, READ THIS

When I say move offshore I mean *really* move offshore. We did it here in the 80s when we had to and lots of others did too.

I can?t see the law going through but anyone who digs their head in the sand and slaps on a 25% "wank tax" for their customers will last about a week.
