Moderately Priced Quality Camera Setup For Shoots??

A buddy of mine was over my house last night and asked me a few questions. Since I do not shoot any content of my own, I could not answer them. I am sure people can on gfy since people shoot their own content for paysites and so forth. I know their will be different opinions but I still want them.

1. what still digital cameras are at a moderate price with high quality.

2. what light setups are most effective for indoor shoots.

3. Which video cameras are easiest to manage, with the highest quality.

Basically he wanted a nice setup for content at a moderate prices.

Seriously though, I just bought the Nikon D50. Same guts as the D70, but better internal processing and cheaper!

Digital Rebel (300D) is decent for the average consumer who wants the functionality of a real SLR, but in no way is it strong enough to handle the rigors of content production on a regular basis. We used one here for a month in the spring when we were shooting content for one of our solo girl site projects and the thing bugged out after about 3000 pics. I sent it to Canon for warranty repair and they said that they had never seen such wear on one of these cameras to date. Shutter assembly needed to be replacled, printed circuit board needed to be replaced, and the sensor where the lens matches up with the body needed to be replaced. We used it in the same way we used our Fuji S1 Pro, (which lasted us through 4 years of constant usage), but the Digital Rebel couldn't handle the usage we were putting it through.
It's a decent camera, and shoots great pics, but it's a "weekend warrior" digital SLR at best.
Of all the cameras I've used and demo'd, the lowest "level" camera I would recomend for cotnent production would be the D70 from Nikon. Anythign less than that, and you're going to be dealing with lots of trips to the warranty repair center.

A great site for digital camera reviews is http://www.dpreview.com

I have been using a Digital Rebel for over a year now since it first came out and I have taken thousands of pics with it and it is still working good for me. I am sure it is not as sturdy as the higher end models, but I prefer the cheaper lighter bodies since they are easier to hold in one hand and balance it with a coupla fingers at the same time. The lenses and lighting is what matters anyway. If and when it breaks I will upgrade to one of the newer Canon digital bodies.

You can get canon 10D's off E-bay at very reasonable prices now that the 20D is out..
