Check this shit out, guy trying to steal a domain.

Domain names changed, context is fucking DEAD ON.

He owns Orange.com and sells orange paint. I have Oranges.com and talk about oranges, with hundreds if not thousands of pages relating to information about oranges. Oranges.com (mine) was registered in 1995 while Orange.com (his) in 1996. He didn't even own Orange.com until a few years ago anyway. He sold his paint from OrangePaint.com. I don't sell paint.

His email:
We sell orange paint and own the site www.orange.com. Because oranges.com is so similar to www.orange.com, we are interested in acquiring it for a reasonable fee. It appears that your firm is simply just squatting on to it. Would you accept $500 plus your costs to transfer over the site?
Best regards,
Larry Loser

What would you reply to Larry ?

Tell him while you respect his generous offer you are currently in negotiations with other Tropicana and Odwala. Expalin to him what squatting is and ask if he has been painting a lot today because he is obviously out of his mind.

Orange.com is a fairly big mobile phone company and a very well known brand in the UK.

www.orange.com is trying to pull one over on Brujah! Posing as a painter selling orange paint. Nice research went into this Brujah!

Send the same info you posted here back to him and explain that he is the one actually squatting and he needs to relinquish orange.com back to you for $500 or you will get your attornys involved, turn the tables on him.

umm well if these are not the actual domains then how would we know if $500 is a reasonable offer or not?

$500 for orange.com is ridiculous but maybe it's reasonable for the actual domain that you chose not to mention...

Dir sir,
Your offer has my family and myself deeply concerned with your well being. We are fairly certain that you have been subjected to the long term effects of paint fumes. This obviously has had a bad effect on your judgment if not other things we are unaware of. We are really concerned for you and honestly suggest you look into increasing your vitamin C intake. I would suggest skipping pills or suplements and go directly to the source, oranges. You can find a wide variety of usefull information throughout www.oranges.com.
Thank you and may you regain your health.

Yes I know the domains are changed in the original.

Why is this so bad? Rebut with a few extra 0's and move on. I've made ridiculous offers on real estate and got them accepted. Some people are dumb. Ok, so you're not brujah. Good work not being a moron. LOL

lol some great replies. the thing that had me wondering about this guy was he mentioned the term ' squatting ' and used the ' confusingly similiar ' argument. He'll probably take it further.

The only legal claim he could have is a possible trademark right.

However, trademarks require distinctiveness. "Orange" is not a very distinctive name, as a dictionary word, it is more descriptive.

Trademarks also normally require first use. If you owned your domain first, that would also weaken his claim.

Definitely don't offer to sell the domain, which could be construed as a "bad faith" offer to sell under the UDRP and the ACPA. Get an NDA first.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. I manage 17,000 domains.

We'd loan you 20 or 30,000 dollars at DigiPawn if you ever needed the quick cash and wanted to put oranges.com up as collateral. I'm just letting you know.

ah ok, somehow skipped over that.

Personally if it was me and I'd be interested in selling the domain I'd basically tell him that he needs to add a few 0's and come back.
And if he keeps waisting your time just tell him to fuck off

They are doing the Nissan tactic of getting you to quote a figure to use it as an argument of cybersquatting for a larger price. However I know you are experienced in the domain name game and can see through that.

So what is the actual domain? Tough to determine your response without knowing what the domain is. 500 for oranges.com is to low but if its some crappy domain who knows?
