Democrats push for age limit on Web porn

And so it's no accident that, Wednesday, a group of congressional Democrats pounced on the issue, introducing a bill that would require Internet porn sites to verify the age of anyone trying to gain access and imposing a 25 percent tax on purchases made on porn sites.

"I think we've given them plenty of time and plenty of chances to clean up their act," says Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark. "And they haven?t done it. And my impression is they're not going to do it. There's too much money at stake."

But critics say the Democrats' bill would have little effect. They note that there are an estimated 420 million porn Web pages, making enforcement of the age verification requirement impossible. And since many porn Web sites are also based overseas, they're largely beyond U.S. control.

A software company should create a program that automatically blocks a computer from a given list of URLs. The list of URLs would be web based. The online database would contain a list of domains for porn sites. I would have no problem submitting my domains to this database, kids aren't buying from me anyway. The parents can then set this software up to work with their childrens computer/Internet accounts.

Is this a potential solution? I'm sure lawmakers would say it isn't good enough, but that isn't what I'm asking. Is this a viable solution that COULD and WOULD potentially work? Or am I missing something?

I think Bill Gates should include a IEKids with windows that only works on obvious non adult sites period. If their parents want to add more sites in the list they could do that but out of the box nothing retarded. Might as well face the fact that parents won't keep up with their kids and do something about it.

Personally, I think its pretty sad that parents need to hover over their children these days in fear of them getting into trouble with the law, drinking and smoking at ridiculously young ages, getting pregnant way too early, watching porn, getting in fights, etc... don't you?

Though watching porn is definitely at the bottom of the list above, but I think you can see what I'm trying to say...

I know that because for the most part, it is somewhat difficult for someone under the age of 18 to get a credit card. It needs to be co-signed by the parents, and odds are the parents are taking a peek at the bill every now and then. Ok, so sure, a few kids out of hundreds of transactions. Big deal.

What I find really absurd about this so-called "study" is that they say the top porn consumers are 12 to 17 years old. That's just not fucking true.

They may be surfing porn, but they're not "buying" porn (being consumers) and we're not trying to get them to our sites....we DON'T WANT THEM on our sites, if for no other reason than they can't buy anything.

If they're surfing porn is that my fault? Should hate group websites have to verify age before spewing their filth at people?

And this whole thing about people putting "disneyland" or "pokemon" on their porn sites is outrageous....99% of that was ONE person who is already in jail for it. Plus congress already passed a law to address this, making it illegal to use misleading domain names to lure people to porn sites.

I don't think that would work. Most kids know how to use computers way better than their parents.

The problem with that bud is that parents are too lazy to aprent their own children so they push for silly laws like this.
