Buying New Computer - Need Advice!

So I need to buy a new desktop since my old one is starting to get a bit old.

I would like some system suggestions. I am going to use the computer for video editing so it needs to be pretty powerful machine power

Also where do you guys get ahold of all those Dell coupons or rebate tickets or whatever it's called? I wanna get me that Dell 20inch widescreen screen :P

Why AMD? Which AMD processor would you recommend?

well it depends how much performance you need. I personally just think AMD is better. I have a 3000+ and it is plenty fast. you may wanna get a 900 series chip though. since pci express is the future of graphic cards, youll want a mobo that has pci express. and there arent many pther boards with pci exprss that use the 700 series chip. i forget the actually numbers. 939 and 754 or something like that. just dont get sempron. get amd 64 or FX

I just had this machine delivered about a week ago. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...n&s=dhs&~ck=mn

It has the dual core 3.0 cpu with 1 gig of 533mhz ram installed, so far so good. One thing though, those bastards just dropped the price a couple hundred and they wont give me a price adjustment.

Anyways, regarding the monitor. I only upgraded to the 17" ultrasharp lcd because I already have a 19" from a different manufacturer. Anyways, to make a long story short. I just ordered this LCD and awaiting its arrival, pretty inexpensive.

make sure you figure out if you need dual core. they have their advanages and disadvantages. single core are still better for things.

Make sure it has a 64-bit processor. MS Vista is made to run on a 64-bit machine and will be out soon (it will run on a 32-bit but not as efficiently).

Gone - Stay away from that mobo, had one and nothing but problems, go with a Asus AN8-E...

As for the rest you don't really need a overrated gfx card like that a Albatron/MSI/Sparkle 6600GT will do the same and cost way less.

As for the rest looks like a nice setup (tho too little space, I would get 2 Hitachi 160GB SATA II drives instead ;) )

"- Harddrive
Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74Gb 10000rpm 8Mb cache S-ATA"

When I ordered those for my machine... It took 6 drives mailing them back and fourth to Western Digital to find two good ones. I've heard similar horror stories as mine, just letting you know.

GoNe - don't got with that...iether get the AN8-E (nforce4 ultra) or the A8N-SLI PREMIUM (if you want SLI) since this are the latest ones launched that fixed some problems with the first boards like the A8N-SLI (beeing one them beeing able to run in 1T)

Cheers
