angry with my UK bank :@ :@

so i get wired from ccbill weekly, the week before lasts wire went missing, after a few calls they "found" the money and put it into my account. so this week it happenes again, its been over a week and no wire and the guy cannot find the money...

he asks me which country it was sent from and I said the US, he said to me "where is the US?"... im not joking he actually said that.

halifax can be a bunch of clowns at times

how long does it take you guys to receive wires to your uk accounts? a friend with hsbc gets them next day (tuesday).

Errm dude, never bank with Halifax. The only thing theyre good for is savings accounts and mortgages.

If you want a proper account, go with one of the following:

Barclays
Lloyds TSB
Natwest
HSBC

i have both savings and mortgage with halifax, ive heard hsbc are the best so far for international stuff, and thats not just because of their heavy international campaign recently

Time to switch to Natwest.. they're clutz's when it comes to cheques, but with wires it's next day service. Hell yeah :D

Try Abbey. They seem to be keen for new business and offer 'Free Banking Forever'. Got my mainstream and adult accounts with them. Do good for me.

I like Nationwide. And never had any probs with Barclays.

Halifax however suck. They refused to give me a debit card when I was a student.

HSBC are the worlds largest clearing bank so they do tend to know how to handle wires!

How much do you get charged for currency conversion? I keep e-mailing them to ask but never get a reply. Not exactly inspiring and encouraging for someone who is looking to switch banks. Putting off a potential customer!!!

No actual charge for either cheque or wire transfer. They probably take their cut in the actual exchange rate transaction but I don't generally look to closely at that, I cry about that as it is

Give them a call 0845 607 0666

When I last went into Abbey and asked them about taking $US cheques I got a blank stare before the dimwit said "oh we dont do that".

Needless to say I was straight out the door.

They're changing again? Damn, must have re-thought their stupid "all pink" branding. Can you give me the inside scoop on what their new scheme is?

If you use Barclays and come to the US you can withdraw cash from an ATM for no fee at Bank of America. A few of the big banks have started this banking global alliance.

Global Alliance member banks are: USA - Bank of America; France - BNP Paribas; Germany - Deutsche Bank; Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean - Scotiabank; Australia and New Zealand - Westpac.

LOL. Check out abbey.com

It's to do with them being bought out with Grupo Santander, the world's 9th largest bank.
