Odd of winning the lotto arent that bad

considering the odds of you being born were pretty fucking low. research says that average sperm count per millileter in 1973 was 89 million. so that means your won a "lotto" that was 1:89,000,000. doesnt seems so bad now does it?

Of course not. In a real lotto others compete and as soon as one wins the jackpot nobody else can win it. In life, you have 89,000,000 chances of winning.

You're correct from a strictly scientific point of view.

Remember that in humans both sperm and egg are haploid; that is, they carry only half the number of chromosomes (23) as a normal cell (46) in the body. When sperm and egg unite they form the diploid (two sets of chromosomes) zygote; the zygote obtains one set of chromosomes from the egg and one from the sperm.

During the production of the sperm or egg cells (the gametes), a diploid cell undergoes two successive cell divisions during meiosis to give four haploid gametes. Prior to the first divison in meiosis, the diploid cell replicates its set of 46 chromosomes and all of the chromosomes "pair off" with their nearly identical copy; during this period, individual pieces of DNA that make up the chromosomes can "cross-over" or become associated with one of its partner chromsomes. This can lead to physical breakage and rejoining of pieces of chromosomes to produce nearly identical, but still slightly different copies of the same chromosome. Since each gamete (sperm or egg) will receive only one of the four nearly identical copies of each chromosome in the set, each individual sperm or egg is slightly different at the DNA level.

However, nature or nurture? Would a child with nearly identical DNA raised exactly the same way you were turn out to be you?

I don't think so. DNA might be copied excatly as it is, but not experience. Life cannot be relived.

Are you stupid? If a different sperm had made it into your mom's egg egg you'd be a different person. You might be the opposite sex. Do you look like your siblings EXACTLY? No. WHY? Because each sperm and each egg is different. So there were potentially 89 million different possible babies that could have been born.

Idententical twins look the same because they come form the same egg and same sperm.

Someone please start a thread on
"What if ... <insert birth related question here, would we be the same person we are today>?"

Ex: If the phone rang, and delayed your father busting a nut .. would we still be the person we are today? or would we not exist at all?

Creepy shit to think about.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.
