It is funny how people can look back and say wow what opportunity...

The new guy is saying wow look at right now. And we should try and keep that view also. There is opportunity right this second. A new MSFT just opened up and is selling stock etc. We just need to look with fresh eyes.

got my "feet wet" in 2001 but made a lot (a lot for me at the time) in late 2001 to 2003 and slowed down a lot in the summer of 03 and picked up again about 3 months ago.

Mainstream for me is kicking ass now. In 2003 it was definitely porn.

Mainstream is where all the porn money went IMHO. Compared to just a few years ago the whole Adult market really tanked due to saturation and torrents. That's why you see most of the guys who were making a killing in porn have shifted to mainstream ventures en masse.

I got into adult around 2001/2002, my USD income has increased each year but currency losses mean I'm effectively standing still.

$USD1000 in 2001 = $AUD2083
...
$USD1000 in 2007 = $AUD1190

So today I have to work at a factor of 1.75 - getting near working twice as hard - to have the same amount of cash in my pocket at the end of the day, as I did in 2001. Remember, these are currency losses only, this ignores the fact that it's getting hard to make $USD in the first place......

yeah the rates are so shitty right now for us
Canadians and the Euro guys too, it's a total nightmare .
At this moment 1.08 is the exchange rate CND - US .
The bank rate you might get about 1.0640 if that ...

As long as there is billions and billions of dollars being made online there is opportunity. You just need to work harder and smarter and think outside the box.

happy i ddint started so early, in 2000 i was watching free porn and in 2001 playing counter strike no stress but damn poor . I started mainstream in 2004 and adult in 2005 and i now have over 1 million users daily and im happy that i took some time to have fun online , If i had discover the other side of porn (making money with it instead of spending ) i would be too rich already and would not appreciate the money like i do now.

anyway, there still money to be made , their more internet users than ever , they trust cc payment , they just have more choice and better quality.

getting rid of zango and friends , would be a good step to make things better.

i think it was more like 97 to 00
the golden years

but still the % of people using internet will only go up
and the % of those people having credit cards will go only up as well (or other payment solution accetable for the internet)

yeah the competition is hard, but it will seed out only the best ones

so i see bright days in this industry in near future

Sadly, the ways to get all the porn you want for free will also go up.

Damn I didn't start adult until late 2003, past the prime of it I think. Now the web is oversatured with content and 18 year old adult webmasters trying to make a buck until they realize it's not easy.

Great thread...I started part time in late 2000 and got ripped off by so many people I quit doing porn stuff, I wasn't making sites(in retrospect, I obviously should have)...I was selling stuff to other webmasters...but these days, after working in the music biz for years, I'm back at it... I make my sole living from it... and I have to say, this is the funnest (I know that's not a word) businesss I have worked in.... there just doesn't seem to be alot of "original" thinkers in this business yet.....

This industry like most has a hard time looking to the future and focusing on the past.

Their is money to be made( and a lot at any time) Just because something worked three years ago does not mean it will work today.

The guys who are scared the most in this industry are the ones with the most to lose.

They are scared because in the ten years of history this industry has had, every big company has fallen, every single one of them. Whether it be from laziness or arrogance, they all have had difficulty changing. From free sites, AVS, Paysites, reality sites, tgp's to mgp's, buying and selling traffic, very few people can change with the times.

Is their opportunity? of course their is. For anybody to think that their isn't millions to be made has no imagination or common sense.

Why have most of the previous posters complained about not making enough? Simply they had no long term plan.

The guys who have been here 5 or 6 years fucking around will still be fuckin around in 5 more years, it is the guy who comes here and sees how to do something better, is the one that is gonna make bank.

That guy who said he was clearing $5k a day could clear $100k a day and still would have no money and be looking for job. Simply he was a "lottery" winner, he never learned how to make money or what its worth is.

Oh and just so new people who read this thread know, in 96 I had a friend who had a site and was making 25k a month, a couple years after he said the money wasn't easy to make any more and was doing something else.

In 98 I had a friend who started up a very large program that did very well and had 10k to 15k members a site, until 2000 when it went down the tubes.

In 2000 I knew some one who was making millions from his site, he said in 2002 that the industry changed and moved onto doing other stuff.

In fact every year I have heard the same fuckin shit come out of peoples mouth, yet every year I meet new people who are making millions...how the fuck can that happen?

I started doing affiliate sales in 99. The money was really good and easy back then, for affiliates, no question about it. 2000 to mid 2002 was a golden age for that kind of thing.

Search engine money was great, and easy to get. Traffic was easy to get. Gallerys were easy to post, free sites too, and they both allowed a lot more agressive selling than now.

So it goes.

Not every company from way back has gone down. Clickcash, AFF to name a few are from the 1996 era and still making a lot of money.

Why you know so many people who made a ton of money one year and the next it stopped.... They didn't know how to adapt. They would come up with a way to make money (mainly a traffic method or a unique site) and people copied them and they eventually got surpased by their competition.
They probably got comfortable. Come up with a great idea make a lot of money and get comfortable is a sure way to stop making money. While you are being comfortable people are copying you. It is just a matter of time before their build on what you were doing and they offer something more innovative, better, etc than what you were doing. And you stand there scratching your head saying, WTF happened.

You not only need to find a way to make money, but you need to stay 3 steps ahead of your competition once you do. Let them copy you, if your traffic method, website, whatever is always better than theirs you will continue to make money.

The other problem (a result of being comfortable aka lazy) is people should diversify once they start making good money. Branch off into new projects, locate new traffic sources, buy up smaller sites, etc...

Why look in the past? There are still billions to be made in porn, I know you are retired or whatever quiet, but other guys like me who started after 03 still have plenty of cash to make. We just need to quit doing the same thing over and over again.

I started in adult in 02 and my income was bigger each year, until this year, I am going to made probably same money as in 03. Times has changed definately.
Fortunately I have some mainstream income too.
With our emerging economy (czech republic) and currency losses, buying power of dollars went down big time as there was everything dirty cheap before. Eg. Similar property I live in, cost in 2002 around 70k usd, now it could be around 150k usd.
But one has to move, looking back dont bring higher income.

I was in around the end of 1998 but I didn't take it seriously enough and I kick myself about that frequently.

I think someone new can make great money today but you have to microniche.
If I was new and starting out I would never do vanilla white girl fucking vanilla white guy. Id be doing pantyhose or F/m or chubby grannies or something unusual for straight.

If youre going to do white guy fucking white girl then youre competiting with mega multimullion dollar companies who already have networks and systems setup and if youre new theres no way you can compete, itll take forever before you see results.
