i made a shitload until Xpics went bankrupt, then i got discouraged and quit, they owed me a fuckload of cash.

azguy 07-23-2005 12:44 PM

Haha I had a nice ride with Xpics.. the first check I ever got from anything online

WiredGuy 07-23-2005 12:49 PM

Speaking of Xpics, that was indirectly the first steps on how I got into adult. Someone stole my credit card number and racked up a ton of charges to XPics. I went to see what it was and a few weeks later, I became a webmaster. Go figure, someone stealing my CC number got me into this business. LOL

The first-ever check I got was from Xpics for about $2K and that was a week or two after I started sending traffic.. it was when they had $25/signup.. so that was kinda motivating to say the least :1orglaugh

Meloman 07-23-2005 01:12 PM

I've been around since mid '98. Got my start with AVS sites. I make way more now but the money was waaaaaaaaay easier then.

Back then I was a college kid working part time making less than $1K monthly. Almost overnight I was at $10K monthly and haven't looked back.

I remember the Adult Check link list used to send great traffic and instant sales.

To get this in perspective... if you do free sites now you need to mirror your site dozens of times, get it listed on dozens of link lists and do that daily for like a year before u would see a good return. (just guestimating here since I don't do this anymore)

Back then building 10 simple ass Adult Check sites would get you an easy $5K-$20K a month. (simple sites with 30 pics and a bunch of upsell banners)

I'm talking back in 98. Every year it's gotten harder and harder. I think 96-98 was the true golden era when people made fuck you money super easily without blinking an eye. I'm talking the mega millions with 1/20th of todays work.

xlogger 07-23-2005 01:14 PM

Who cares about the past. We will be talking about 2005 in 2010 and saying it was good times.

By 2010 all the oldies buisness will be taken over.

Stuart, don't you think that's an unhealthy attitude? You're right that you dont NEED to be rich, but if you think you might like to, why hold yourself back with preconcieved notions of what you can and can't accomplish?

Don't say "I'll never be able to afford ..." instead try asking "What can I do so I can afford to buy ... ?"

Nice to hear that there is so many xpics generation guys still around here. Makes me feel old though.

Xenophage 07-23-2005 01:39 PM

Been here since 1994 and been making more money every year since ! This will be my best year ever once again. :thumbsup

I think the best is still yet to come. Things have changed and what once worked no longer does and new things are sure to come. If your new you cna still become very rich if you innovate and come up with something new no one else has ever done. but a lot of things have to come together just prfect for it to happen so it has alot to do with LUCK !

Shit. I started a year too late. Do I have to give back all of this money???

:winkwink:

Downtime 07-23-2005 02:46 PM

i totally agree. the "wild west town" analogy is honestly dead on. there's still plenty of money to be made though!

Silly money is right. I can remember doing almost nothing and having stacks of Ibill check stubs on my desk. I could have dropped dead in 2001 and my business still would have grown.

I do regret not being more radically audacious with everything. I could have done 5x what I did, but at the time I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

It's not all finished yet tho...

Nah, just being realistic. I don't need a lot of money to be someone else's equal, nor do I need a lot of money to be happy.

Yes, it would be nice and I wouldn't mind if I did have a lot of money, but I know that not everyone is meant to be rich. It's not because they just don't try hard enough, or that they just don't know how.... they're just not meant to be.

It's easy to see that in lottery winners. Every day people win themselves millions and end up worse off than when they started.

MiLo 07-23-2005 03:31 PM

Quiet,

Can i still reach you to the email adresse i have from you? Let me know as i would like to discuss a little bit of business if you dont mind.

Thanks and hope is all well,

Sure, again money doesn't equate to worth. I'm just suggesting that you limit yourself by not exuding confidence.

I've never believed I could be anything but sucessful. I don't say things like "I wish I could afford a beautiful beach home.". Instead, I say things like "I can't wait until i buy a beautiful beach home.". It might seem like only a minor difference in attitude but I assure you it makes a big difference in the long run.

FTVGirls 07-23-2005 03:35 PM

Ah, sucked for me because I started FTV in early 2003 haha. I always wonder how I would have stood out if I opened up the same time as Karups, ATK, Alsscan... etc...

I agree with WarChild. While wealth sometimes has to do with just being lucky (right place, right time etc.), most of the time it's your mind set though.

Since I was a little kid I always said I wanted to be rich and buy whatever I want. That mentallity is what made me try so hard in the beggining and succeed at this. You have to truly want it to be able to put the effort in.

I fail at 90% of the projects I try. It's the 10% that work that make money. I got in Adult when I was 23...it was my THIRD company I started. The other 2 failed but this took off. Failure never stops me...I'm much too full of myself to ever give up.

Stuart. It sounds to me like you're basically saying "I wasn't meant to be rich, so why bother trying"? Of course there is more to life than money. So maybe you just have other priorites that are more important to you, which is completely understandable. But if you genuinely want to be rich, and it's actually a true life goal...then you'll never achieve it if you give up before even trying with that attitude.

Just my 2 cents :thumbsup

Good stuff. Warchild too.

Doctor Dre 07-23-2005 04:20 PM

There is still tons of money to be made ... some of us who aren't millionaires just didn't work hard enough or focused on the wrong things ... money isn't as easy to make as it used to be... but it's still easier then most other industries

Minte 07-23-2005 04:23 PM

Those were the days..put up a few gallerys of pics and a few banners and then try and figure out how to get more bandwidth to handle the traffic.

i've heard your numbers from people who i more or less trust - you're not far away from either Karups or ATK - ahead of Alsscan for sure. Most sites that got started in the pioneer days have a fraction of the members they had during their heyday - still lots of money to be made, but nowhere near what it once was.

I should have understood branding better put more into building one large site.
But yeah I started in 97 and It was easyer , free hosting a simple gallery or 3 and 2 hun listings a week where enough to live off back then.

Major (Tom) 07-24-2005 02:06 AM

Nothing in life is easy... Thats why we work our asses off..
right now im editing video for 2 new sites...Why am I editing video? Because I dont feel a couple of flips could do it as well as i can. Yea im controlling, demanding, and hard to work for.. but we've grown quite a bit and are bigger than some "well known" programs already.. So i just keep plugging away.. no time for fun, just work.. and I'm cool with that.

OH mate... '97... I helped a mate of Mr-Yellow's manually move tonnes of porn around on IRC servers a couple of times more or less as a lark.. I kick myself to this very day i didn't see the opportunities at the time and that I was on a very different mainstream path and only really started coming around to the idea of pushing porn in '99-'00 and even then it took me far too long to get started after a couple of failed ventures. It's what made me so very conscious of having to work with the right people.

SleazyDream 07-24-2005 02:24 AM

i did GREAT 2000-2003 - and still am doing great.

thank god i never used ibill :winkwink:
