Yeah! Just read that. That's politicians for you. Just pulling dollar numbers out of their asses to empose new taxes on whatever they want! Taxes are suppose to be "reasonable" and not arbitrary!

WASHINGTON - A Democratic lawmaker is planning to propose a new 25 percent federal tax on Internet pornography and new requirements for adult Web sites to help prevent children from looking at them.

I really don't see how you can create a tax that applies only to a select industry. This has got to be un-constitutional....

I think at some point, people (adult industry) are going to realize that if they want to continue to do business in this industry, maybe the US is not the place to live......

From the Yahoo article - last 2 paragraphs:

"Called the Internet Safety and Child Protection Act of 2005, the bill also proposes new rules for Web sites to verify they do business only with adults. It would compel sites to use specialized software to verify a customer's age, subject to enforcement by the Federal Trade Commission.

An FTC spokeswoman said the commission was not aware of the proposed bills."

That might actually SAVE us some tax money... I'll have to run some numbers. A reduction in taxes for porn peddlers would be an ironic fuckup! Whats next, directly subsidizing us? Woo hoo!

I think maybe you took that the wrong way... What I was implying is that if the govt continues to target select industries, maybe people would be more inclined to go somewhere that doesn't constantly target that industry.

BTW, have you ever lived in a foreign country? There are a lot of other "great countries" on earth....

They are talking about 25% more than what you already pay.

This politician needs to be impeached or exposed for whatever illegal shit he might be doing when no one is looking.

You get taxed 25% for running a porn site, THEN you get to pay your company tax , so you end up paying more taxes than before.

It's not a tax on porn site owners. It's a sales tax on surfers. Instead of charging $30, you'd have to try and get $37.50 from them with the new porn sales tax figured in.

If you live in the 'greatest country on earth' you don't have to worry about this, it only applies to those inside the US.

Also;
Money collected from the tax would be used for law enforcement and for protecting children from Internet-related crimes.

Why don't parents just do their god damned job once in a while and keep the kids off the internet on their own. Don't screw over the industry cause 90% of parents today are complete imbecils. I say tax the parents. If an underaged kid gets caught going to a porn site, fine the parents a couple $k and see how many parents start actually acting like parents on this matter.

So fucking true.

First it was TV, and now it's the internet acting as a babysitter -- and then they bitch at what is on TV or the net. Time for some parental responsibility/accountability

Well - since this is the same story that was posted a few days ago multiple times - here's the real answer - if they do approve a tax - they have just made the biz legitimate and can no longer try to shut all the sites down - and no lawmaker in his right mind is gonna vote internet porn legitimate.
Second - the CDA has been already shot down by the Supreme Court many times - which this is just a re-hash of - wont work this time either.
Third - These types of bills get introduced every session of congress and get shot down every session - so dont give it any more than its worth - which is nothing

Been my stance for years

Another really bad thing is that many of the same people targeting the internet for "clean up" also are working to get the broadcast decency regulations extended to satellite and cable

I just sent the Senator from Arkansas a nice email telling her to stop being unamerican and sucking up to the former slave-owners of her state.

A copy of my email to Sen. Lincoln:

The simple fact you propose to tax protected speech by 25% is disgusting and anti-American. I know you are sucking up for votes for 2008 from a conservative Fundamentalist Facist racist populace of your former slave-owning state. Taxing free speech of any kind is like taxing me because I am Hispanic. It is completely subjective and prejudicial. Then again Senator, you are from the South... the land of slavery. Things haven't changed much - only the white robes and hoods are in the closet. Stop trying to control what people can see and let us responsible adult decide what is best for my children. See you at the next book burning!

Yeah, they'll get right on that as soon as they get through removing the warning labels and other regulations on the booze and cigarettes they make a cut on
