I like these threads, because I run Jesus' confession website (see sig, fuckers!...it's free).

Now my $.02 sad cents.

1. Religion is man made. If it wasn't, there'd be only one.

2. Ever hear the phrase "don't discuss politics and religion" ? There's a reason for that. They both stem around "belief". Something which, once instilled, is very, very difficult to influence, especially when confronted with a really, really good argument. Kind of like magnetism, one of the strongest forces known to man. Take two people who each "believe" they're right, bring them together and they'll always repel.

3. Oppression has nothing to do with religion. Oppression is an effect caused by a force (words, chains, guns, terror, etc). Religion is just words.

4. Religion is neither good nor bad. Again, it's just words. Individuals ingesting and forming their own beliefs out of those words are good / bad.

psili - Although I partially agree, I think that opressions had numerous causes and some of them are very firmly based on religion - understand I define religion as belief per the OED definition. A set of beliefs can be the foundation of oppression as has been evidenced by numerous "holocausts" over the years - but lets just stay with recent events - say from 500-150 years ago when the settlers of the US mainland decided that their beliefs (religion) were causing them to need more land - and murdered millions of the original natives of the US (American Indians) who had a different set of beliefs.

For people not familiar as to why I would present that as a holocaust - you might wanna check the amount of Indians that were slaughtered - to give you an idea - from an estimated 12 million in 1500 on the US mainland to barely 237,000 in 1900 - This is twice the number of Jews killed by the Nazis in WWII - but then I guess we had a good reason - we needed the land for our Gods churches and the Indians God wasnt recognized by the US government until the 1960s after many demonstrations and closings of highways by "left wing radical Indians"

Nope, not possible. Some fanatics (more like most) take religion to an entirely different level - they have read so far into something, which is nothing or simply not there. Wake the fuck up and believe in yourself, not some knob you cannot even see!


Take same sex (homosexual, gay & lesbian) marriage: who fucking cares, not I. The so-called institution is so beyond dead and is obsolete. (Only traditionalist, that refuse to evolve or move forward, have a fingernail hold and are grasping on till the end.)

Most of the so-called Good Word preachers say same sex marriage will ruin the word/term/definition/institute, but in my eyes, it has already been soiled by divorce. Those that get divorced or do not live up to the words spoken during the ceremony are the people to blame.
